Hibiscus that makes me smile.

Do you have a special plant in you garden that brings back a fond memory ,and it puts a smile on your face? Well this hibiscus does that for me. My DH bought me this hibiscus when I moved here to Texas. Everytimes it blooms it reminds me how lucky I am to have him in my life.

And yes...I do have several plants in my garden that remind me of someone. I am so glad I still have them.

Pretty one. I have many hibiscus(my middle name), Ha!

I have some roses, I started from grandmas' cuttings. Everytime they bloom I think of her, she has been gone for 20 yrs. Have lots of other hardy bushes etc. from friends who are no longer here.

Thanks Hibiscus.
It is amazing how a single plant can bring back such wondeful memories of friend or family member who are no longer with us. They continue to live in our hearts and in our gardens. What a wonderful tribute.

Hi Rose....
I have a red double...peach double...pink single...and a yellow single...and of course...I don't know the names of any of them! I can take cuttings anytime you think they will survive the mail in Texas?

Are hibiscus easy to root from cuttings? Is there a particular part of the plant that is better to root than other parts? what is the best way to root them? I have never rooted any,but would like to try.
Thanks

Hi Rose.......
I'm certainly not an expert, but I just cut a piece of stem off from the plant...put rooting hormone on it...and put it in potting soil..and it roots! They seem to root pretty easily.

It has been hot here about 90degrees plus. I would like to trade some hibiscus, once it cools down a little.

I'm sure that there are lots of good ways to root these guys. I have the best rooting luck with both hibiscus and roses, using a soft wood stem that is actively growing and has bloomed. That means in the northern states - don't wait!
