Not pretty, but it's blooms

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Some of my brugs are blooming so heavy right now that the leaves are dropping. I'm hoping it is because the plant is sending the energy to the blooms instead of the leaves. Could be because of our highs and lows in temps or maybe I have overwatered. I don't know, but I guess leafless trees with lots of blooms are better than nothing. LOL!

You sure have a lot of blooms there Shirley. I know that a lot of mine are leafless since all the rain and wind storms. They look a bit naked. LOL

Mirpur (A.K), Pakistan(Zone 9b)

Oh my goodness, so many flowers on a single plant........beautiful.

Fountain, FL(Zone 8a)

With blooms like that, who needs leaves!?

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

The brugs know, that fall is here but this does not keep them from blooming. It is a beautiful sight to see so many blooms on one plant.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

I have never had that many blooms at any one time, beautiful sight, even if a few leaves are missing.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Shirely, I have lots of Bugs that resemble that one.

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

OMG its beautiful S!! I would be jumping for joy if I had that kind of turn out.. leaves or not. LOL

Raleigh, NC(Zone 7b)

Well, I think it's pretty! Mine will drop some leaves too if they get a lot of flowers at once. As you said, I think it's because the plant is sending its energy to the blooms instead of the leaves. They always bounce back.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Too bad it is too late to pollinate. You would be drowning in pods!!

You sure grow them big in Iowa!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Thanks everyone. I like them better with leaves. This is just one branch of Butterfly, but she looks better to me. Ada, I'm so sorry your summer has been the pits. I sure hope that next year will be much better for you.

Butterfly is my favorite. What is the one on the right? Two huge buds/blooms?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

That is just more of the Butterfly plant. Just a little closer to the camera. It is all over the place. A couple of those buds are actually already spent. Nothing but the calyx and stigma left hanging there.

Wow, what a beautiful sight. Thanks for posting this so newbies like me won't be freaked out when our brugs drop their leaves. (I should be so lucky to have one that looks like yours, though!)

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Wowser,those are loaded!!!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

It sure is loaded Shirley. The orange trees here will lose leaves if there is too much fruit, so maybe it's the same with brugs and flowers!

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

WOW, can't wait till mine gets flowers, how long does it take/

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Kareoke, most of my plants, including the first one in this thread were just cuttings last fall, so it only takes a few months to get blooms. Some bloom heavier than others. I hope you get blooms very soon. You are going to love them once you do.

Syracuse, NY

hi brugie i can not believe all the blossoms on that brug i have a few that have yellow leaves also but they seem to be healthy my eP is just blooming but i have many that will not this year becuase it is getting too late beautiful epetember here evey day in the seventies or low eighties. now we will be braceing for the reminants of ivan this weekend end. bob

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

The leaves were probably pushed off by all those blooms. That is just unbelievable.

Freedom, PA(Zone 6a)

Mine are doing the same, large flushes with yellowing leaves. I think all the rain has something to do with it. But it's still beautiful. I only planted 2 brugs in the ground this year and was shocked at how tall and wide they got, I planted 2 white S. and they are huge, I guess they like being in the ground more so than pots. Next year I'm going to put more in the ground. With all the rain we had this summer, I only had to water the ones in the ground a couple times this year.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Yep, she is sure a bloomer. Cathy, I've not had to water the plants in the ground much either and they have done very well. In some cases, to well. LOL!

Lamar, AR(Zone 7a)

Brugie!!! Is that a sweet autumn clematis on the right side of the picture?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Osteole, yes it is. I've got to get rid of it. There is a wood arch under it and I can't even walk through it. LOL!

It is so thick with blooms, it looks like snow!!! I must say plants sure seem to love Iowa even with its weather. Or maybe they just love you Brugie!!

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Oh, I think they just love Brugie! Come to think of it, how could they or anyone not?

Des Moines, IA(Zone 5a)

walk out basement
with all you have
to move inside.
