Your new camera sure takes better pictures than the old one. Good thing the big ole dog broke the other one, ha.
The leaves on this look a lot like Abelmoschus. I have a red one that I keep seeds from each year, but I have to grow it as an annual. http://davesgarden.com/pdb/go/240/index.html
Do you grow yours from seed or does it come back from the roots? It looks very healthy.
I posted the photos taken with the new camera because the others were sooo bad that I was ashamed. I am very happy the big old dog broke the other one. Wow, your Abelmoschus has such a vibrant bloom and that is a great photo! Do you have any seeds you can send me? The pale pavonia I posted here is growing in a yard in my neighborhood and comes back every year from the roots if it freezes back. Due to the mild winter we had this year, it did not freeze back. Thanks for your comments.
Yes, I can send you a few seeds when I send the plants. You might get away with growing it in the ground down there, but it is really zone 9 I think. Our growing season is not really long enough for it to get very big here, but yours is.
Thanks, I hope they will germinate. If they do, I will plant some in the ground next year and keep some in containers too for insurance in case the ones in the ground do not survive the winter.
Okay, it's a deal, then. I am going to try to take a picture of the leaf and post it...we all get so dazzled by our beautiful blooms that it is easy to overlook the more informative shots.
I keep forgetting to photograph the leaves, stems, bark, etc. I need to do this because it is so helpful when someone needs to identify the plants. I found especially with the Sidas (quite a few species) that the blooms are very similar. The photos I took of their leaves and growth habits assisted with their Identification. Plus, one needs to know how the plant will fit in in his/her landscape.
I agree totally....also, we send in the pictures of the plant at it's best (I do) and sometimes maybe we should also show the worst of it.
That is what I was thinking the other day. I found a scarlet gaura with spent blooms. I went back the next day to photograph an open bloom, but unfortunately the plant had been destroyed. I decided to post the photo because someone might see this plant with only spent blooms and not know what it is. Also, my 'David' garden phlox developed a liitle bit of mildew because my husband overhead watered it for a month and I have not been able to trim the lantana back so there is good air circulation. I started to photograph the mildewed part and explain how to keep this from happening, but decided it was too gross looking. In addition, I have thought about showing what plants that are not suitable for Zone 8 and above purchased at nurseries look like in our summer heat so people in my area don't waste their money and time trying to keep them alive. I have finally been able to resist buying them even though they are beautiful for a little while. After seeing the nutsedge happily take over plants in some containers and in flowerbeds while I have not been able to fight it, I was going to post a photo of a Laura Bush petunia with one bloom peering up through the nutsedge and the rest of the stems dead from lack of light. I still may post the one of red tip photinia suffering from blight. Gosh, maybe Dave needs to add a forum for posting these kinds of photos ... the "Sick, Neglected and Abused Plant Forum". LOL
I don't know about you, but I find it somewhat reassuring to learn that even accomplished gardeners have difficulties from time to time. When someone shares their failures with you, it implies a certain amount of trust in you not to laugh and ridicule them. Anyway, a forum about plants with problems might be a bit of fun!
Boy, could I add a lot of plant problems there!
