Just another new member to the forums

I found this site earlier this year but never realized there were forums! Hip hip hooray! I love the Plants database! I am into gardening for wildlife. I have been winter sowing for a while with very good success thanks to help I received from fellow gardeners in my area. I prefer to work with native plants but have quite a few exotics that are well behaved in my gardens such as hostas, daylilies, iris, and actually quite a few others. I am currently struggling to remove English Ivy that I planted about 100 plugs of 3 years ago that was heaving my sidewalks and trying to make a run for my front yard. Oh, if only I had found a site like this back then to forwarn me about that plant!

Hi from Iowa. Glad you finally found the forums. The only problem with them is that they are addictive and I never get as much done during the day as I should because I'm in here. LOL! Enjoy. Daves is a great place to spend some time.

Equill,
Welcome from the high desert country of Utah's red rock canyon country We freeze in the winter and run to 115* in the summer. Right now temps are about perfect with 89-90* for highs and high 60's for our lows. There's folks in these forums to discuss 'bout anything you'd like. Day or Nite.

What would be natives where you live? Here it's Daturas, and Sage LOL... well there are more than that. For instance Flax is natie to these harsh conditions. Here's my warning for the day: Be ware, DG is addictive:

He he he, I can't believe I was using the watchdog and the Plants Database and never realized there were forums. Guess I had to pay to figure that out- doh!

I wouldn't give that ivy to my worst enemy! Some of the vines were the size of my wrist and I ended up on my fanny many a time yanking at that darn ivy and one time I got nailed in the face with a shovel handle trying to pry it out of the ground. Oh man did that hurt.

Hmm, what would be natives where I live-
*oaks, hickories, hawthornes, walnuts, white fringe trees, paw paws, pesimmons, a few elms left
*new jersey teas, hazelnuts, ninebarks, gray dogwoods, viburnums, red buds
*thicket creeper, and poison ivy is actually a native- oh joy
*too many woodland, wetland, marginal, and savannah perennials to list

I loved that image of the little guy at the computer- too funny. Better here than surfing the net looking for my information hit or miss. I think I have a favorites list of websites that if printed out would drop to the floor. That's what gardening does to you. You buy plants on impulse, then run to the computer to find out if you screwed up, then you need to figure out where to plant them, and then you realize you forgot where whatever website told you to plant it so you run back to the computer for one last check. I think I leave this computer on and go back and forth to it at least 6 times a day when I am gardening so I sure did laugh at that rabbit yelling at the guy at the computer.

We do have many nice native plants here in the midwest and I sure do seem to gravitate toward them the more and more I learn about them. I've always been into wildlife but not so much into gardening but the two really go hand in hand. Now I garden for wildlife! Happy median for me since I've got the gardening bug bad, real bad.

Welcome to DG - Warning!!! It is addictive!

FYI There is a gathering in Kentucky this weekend of people who are members of Dave's Garden Website. I just joined DG but it sounds like a lot of fun and I'm especially interested in the plant swap at 10 AM on Saturday. For additional information you can read the KYRU Threads on the Roundup Forum. - Saturday Lunch, Friday Night Shrimp Boil etc.

Hi Judy, I think I already discovered how addictive it was. I was already a native plant junkie and now to add fuel to the fire I am running into more native plant junkies. This is going to make the winter months so much more bearable.
