Have Leonotis menthifolia seeds; honeybees love it!

ADDED 9/17/04:
Anyone who did not post a message to this thread but ONLY wrote me by clicking my name (forwarded through DG) -- and who did NOT hear back from me affirming I had seeds for them -- send another one as well as posting here... my ISP and/or my mail-server been losing mail! Very frustrating! They are not going to my "spam filter" (although hundreds of things are) because been scanning there daily. Unless people are using titles like ""get your prescription drugs HERE!""... Just in case of over-zealous spam filters, though, it wouldn't hurt to make sure title VERY clear, like ""DG Seed Trade, count me in!""

To those who posted here and/or to my mail *and got responses* -- have printed all address labels and divvying up the seeds today!
Thanks! ~'spin!~
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I bought this as, and have always assumed it was, L.leonurus -- however, just now I checked the two PDB entries and mine DEFINITELY has the L.menthifolia leaves ("leaves like a mint" ha-ha).

I have NOT tested the germination of these seeds, but while trimming back my plant I noticed that the seed 'pods' were (imagine that) full of seeds! I shook a dozen or more (pods that is) out into a dishpan I had handy -- doesn't everyone have a dishpan handy in the garden? -- producing several hundred seeds I'm sure, and I will send some to anyone that wants to try them.

About the plant:
http://davesgarden.com/pdb/go/58073/index.html
The 48"x48" is conservative, in my climate. Mine is about that but only due to at least three, if not four, DRASTIC pruning sessions annually -- it would like to be at least 6'x6'! Again, speaking only for Southern California, it is covered with whorls of flowers three or four times a year (see htop's pic, third one down, only they look brighter orange); then I clip it, then it sends up more flowering shoots! Gosh, I love the Lamiaceae!

The hummingbird does visit but prefers the salvias and agastache; however bees (honeybees, and I have no idea where the hive is; you're not supposed to keep bees in the city!) absolutely LOVE these flowers!

Anyway, LMK and I will divide up the seeds I have.

Crystalspin,

Check your email.

Actually, I have several times as many seeds as I described -- when I downsized the bush in maybe June, I put a bunch of the seedheads top down in a five-gallon bucket to finish drying!

Everyone can have some! As mentioned, I have not tested for germination; also they are not entirely clean: there is maybe half again as many little 'husks' as whole seeds -- and I do not have time to clean right now. So since I am not following the guidelines re: testing and cleaning the seeds, no payment is necessary.

If you have good luck with them, we can consider it a deposit to the good-karma fund! Pass it on!

Anyone whose addy is not in the Exchange, be sure to e-mail me with it!

~'spin!~ PS that would be you Sheila!

Ooops they really do look more orange than that. Here's the post I meant to send. From the other direction the sun was more manageable. Hi sweetie, car's okay. Hope the cow is too.

Ha if you only edit a message, it doesn't move the thread back to the top of this, therefore this one is to bump, for the ADDED part in first post.

That was happening to me alot recently; using 'Yahoo' email. Too many members' emails were going into the 'Bulk messages' for spam.

I would like to try some if you have any left.

I've only just started making up my list crystal, but if there's anything there you'd like I'd love to swap. This is one I was going to put on my "wanted" list when I get round to doing it. I love the Lamiaceae too :)

Hilary
