I noticed a couple of days ago that Cio-Cio was having some vaginal discharge, clear in color, but oozing out and making her fur sticky. She is two years old now and has been spayed for over a year. We keep her very clean around there with baby wipes every time she "goes", so I would have noticed if she had had that before.
We took her to the vet today and they examined her as well as doing a vaginal smear test, which all came back negative. No bacterial or fungal anything to worry about. The vet said that if it were his dog, he would watch her for two weeks, since she isn't licking or biting or behaving abnormally in any way. If it changes in color or anything, or simply doesn't let up, then he might consider (under sedation) doing a deeper vaginal examination to see if there might be anything inside that could be causing it. However, he always says it's best to see if these things can't simply correct themselves without pharmaceutical intervention.
Anybody with a female dog have any experience with this? He said that occasionally, a part of an ovary may be left in a spayed female, which could cause symptoms just like heat, including discharge, but she has none of the other symptoms at all, so he doesn't think it's that.
Just wondering if anybody knows any more from their own experiences. She and Prince are my first dogs and I know nothing about them in this area.
Thanks!
Cio-y says thanks too!
