Monday the 13th

Boonies, SD(Zone 4b)

Seems like all my days are Mondays!!

Good evening folks,

I just got back from a church meeting. We interviewed a pastor and offered her a part-time pastoral job. She seems like she will be good for the church, energetic and with lots of new ideas.

I'm glad I didn't fall asleep at the meeting as I had only a couple hours of sleep. I woke up at 2:30 and couldn't get back to sleep. Don't you hate that when that happens?? Now tomorrow night I have to go to my dad's, Wednesday night is an education forum that I have to go to (as I work in the building), Thursday is back to my dad's and Friday I might just get to stay home after I get back from work. I need to check on a couple of aunts and uncles this week too. No wonder I'm tired. And needing a maid!!! Living with three men, some days I should just get a scoop shovel and shovel out the kitchen. They are not real tidy people!! I shouldn't complain, at least one of them will do some laundry.

Jewel, hope your family is getting settled with the sale of the farm. I know how stressful it is when parents think one way and everyone else is thinking something else.

When I got home from work, Bubba was barking somewhere in the direction of the back driveway. I ended up finding him in a little granary. He is a skinny dog (just looks bushy with all that fur) and must have heard a kitten crying. As far as I can figure out, he squeezed his skinny body in between a crack in the wall to get in and then couldn't get out. He was wedged like a sandwich between a wall and an old cabinet. There was about 6 inches of space width-wise and just enough space length-wise so he was like in a rectangular box. Behind him was a board nailed to the cabinet that left only about three inches of space to get through. I don't know how he got in there, but he couldn't back out. I ended up pulling the board off and had to grab him by the fur to back him out, otherwise, he would have stood there looking at me. You could tell that he had been in there for a while because some of the boards in the door were chewed and scratched up from him trying to get out. Now they will make a nice kitty door. And man, was he ever thirsty. Poor dog. The predicaments that he gets into!!! You could write a book!! LOL

It rained a little bit tonight and there are thunderstorm warning out. DH painted the south side of the house tonight, so hopefully it was dry enough when it started raining. We have to get the scaffolding back next Monday, so it's a mad dash to get the high spots on everything painted. Tomorrow it will be the west side of the house and maybe the south side of the garage. This weekend, it will be one of the high sides of the barn. The other three sides are painted, but one short side needs another coat of paint. When I have weeks like this, I can't wait for a good blizzard to get stuck at home. LOL I know, I'll regret saying that later.

In a couple of weeks, we are going to butcher some ducks and geese. Hope to catch them in the barn so we don't need to be doing the 100 yard dash with a fish net, trying to catch them. Life around here is not dull. LOL

We need to be catching the chickens and shutting them in the chicken coop for the winter. Some of them are roosting halfway up a tree. I'm going to have to bribe one of the boys to crawl up there (with the fish net again). It's too bad that they don't like heights. DH says they are scared of two pair of socks. Looks like I will have to go searching for the chicken catcher again. Don't know where I left it last.

Well, gonna hit the sack to see if I can sleep. I might go run around the house a few times to make myself tired. It smells so good after a rain. It's one of my favorite smells.

Take care everyone.
Ruth
