I put my purple datura outside but it did not make it the 2nd winter [ we had frost] so it did not survive...I did not save the seeds either so had to order some this year...I love the perfume [ is yours the double ruffled one ?] sorry, this is the one I am talking about...the one I had... I bought the original plant from the Hawaiian display booth at our summer fare in Del Mar. .southern Calif....Its a beautiful plant but very different from my other Daturas..ps..I also ordered the yellow variety same as the purple..so will see what happens next year..

New Madison, OH(Zone 5a)

Yes Peterson...it is the double ruffled..even though it doesn't look like that in this particular bloom..it's kind of a strange bloom..like it didn't all develop? But yeah...I'm gonna take mine in for the winter too. It definitely doesn't act the same as my other daturas!
I see you type like I do...with the .....inbetween...lol!

Marcy, forgot to mention too, in the garden the purple one seeded quite a lot so I had other plants from it but should have been paying more attention.... [ the..... is partly laziness on my behalf...i do not have to look for the ,,,,,, smile] I learned how to type but the keyboard on my web very different from the typewriter I learned to type on.....Also, the perfume was incredible..do you have yours in a pot..I think I noticed your zone was 5 ?..maybe planted in the garden it gives them more freedom to grow and reseed [ it had actually gotten quite tall..] Was mortified when they all died...you can imagine....marion

Hi Peterson......
Yes..mine was planted in a pot. They aren't hardy here through the winter. I have not seen any seedpods on my purple one yet? Now..my white ones are planted in the ground..and they die off every winter..but then...they reseed and come up in the spring.
These are the only two colors I have so far.
If you would like seeds of the white one ...I would be glad to save some for you?
It is a single white..but smells wonderful.
And by the way...my father's name was Marion!!....small world!

El Cajon, CA(Zone 10a)

Thanks so much for the offer on the seeds I can check the new yellow one for next year [ must check again..am sure it was ruffled ?] and see if it something you would like to have....
Unfortunately health problems have kept me down for a while, so in my rush to get new seeds I am not spending as much time as I normally do, and my drooling has been cut short as I have been trying to move along faster, and trying to catch up with as much as I can [ things which have been neglected]...my hubby does not have the time..or the interest like I do....
Probably gathered I am a Mrs...smile...altho I was a little perturbed when I found out when we came to live in the United States that Marion was a man's name, in the UK it is always a womans name...[ we have been here 40 yrs so a long time to be a Mr.Marion] I always have to make sure that people know that I am a mrs..I always have that at the back of my mind because I know when I get posts they think otherwise...[ like Sam I guess or some others] let me know how your purples do...and save those seeds...[just in case you ever need them, I will be more careful] marion [ Iwill keep some to share with others]..Happy gardening..

You are welcome anytime Marion! Yes..in the US the name Marion is usually a male name..but the female spelling of it is Marian. Either way...it's a nice name..and I am glad to meet you.
If you do need any seeds..just let me know.
Take care and happy gardening!

Thanks Marcy, nice to meet you too....marion [with an O..... smile] " the Brit"
