please forgive this double post - desert rose problem

Fort Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10b)

My mom recently passed away. I am trying to take care of her flowers. In these flowers she has about 10 exotic Desert Roses. They where doing just fine through 2 moves and 2 hurricanes - but now seem to have attracted some sort of creepy crawly. I in no way shape or form inherited my mom's ability to care for plants so I am in the dark with how to get rid of these creatures. As you can imagine I am concerned that I will ruin her plants - that would break my heart. Can someone help me. I am attaching a picture of the pest. I was going to do soapy water and spray them - but becuase they are so special I want to hear from the experts first.
Thank you in advance for any tips or tricks.

Hi Squeaky,
I am not 100% sure (99.5% sure) that your creepy crawler is the caterpillar of the beautiful Fritillary Butterfly. Do you have any passion vines around that you could move the caterpillar to? (gently, with a stick) They also like plants from the violet family and Sedum.

I hope this helps,

Lisa

No Passion vines that I know of... ( assumes I;d know one if I saw one) Actually I just brushed him off for now... But I need to keep them off.. I may try the soap and water trick for starters...

thanks,
nice to meet you..

If it comes back to much again, maybe just moving it to another side of the house would keep it away long enough.

Squeaky, caterpillars are actually really nice to have in the garden if they don't eat too much. Can you just move them to something you don't care much about?

They like pansies too. I finally had to start moving them from my passion vines after they ate them to little nubs. They were greedy little cats! Every time a leaf would grow, they would eat it. They do make beautiful orange butterflies.
