Welcome, durtcom! ...from a transplanted prairie girl... :-)
You'll find answers to all your questions here at DG, and better yet, lots of friendly folks to share your garden's progress with. Hope you enjoy it! All the best,
Shannon

Hi and Welcome durtcom!
welcome, bienvenu, howdy and every other way. Finally another Albertan, whoopee, cartwheels. Where are you south of Calgary and what do you grow?
jaonjune - Howdy to you too! I haven't taken time to investigate but since you are doing cartwheels I can only assume that Albertans are few and far between here. I was born and raised in Calgary (Go Flames!) and 12 years ago my husband and I purchased an acreage 60 miles southeast of Calgary. Our little slice of heaven is the home place subdivided from a family farm (old farm house, barn, etc). The closest town is called Arrowwood (population just under 200). In terms of slightly larger towns we are south of Carseland (near the bow river) and north of Vulcan (the town - not the Star Trek planet).
With the help of family and friends who think of our place as their weekend retreat we grow a large vegetable garden and over the past couple of years I have started to work on building some perennial beds and borders. Wow! I didn't realize how much bigger everything seems in the country! I think I will be buying, growing and adding new plant material for years to come. I look forward to the wealth of knowledge from everyone on this website.

oooooooooh hockey season is going to be sooooooo interesting here!! ;D
We were just up in your neck of the woods a year ago durtcom when we visited Dinosaur Provincial Park......knowing what it looks like there I think I can safely wave to you and you should be able to see it! A big welcoming wave from the Jaw to you!!
p.s. you have to meet BuriedTreasures and weeds....they are a couple of our Florida members that are keeping Lord Stanley's Cup in a somewhat damp and windy locale. I begged them to send it home but they were cackling too much to hear me! ;b
Don't worry Lilypon - We could win the World Cup tonight! The USA is history in that tournament. Best in the "World" wouldn't be too shabby!
Susan
Whoopee Go Canada - world champions. What a game to be the last??? of the season.
While we seem to welcoming Cdns here, where is Franalan? Too busy planting/haying/ whaterver in Ft. St. John?
Ft/ St/ John is home to a very good lily supplier, just to include some garden content..
