She is pretty. Reminds me in a way of a ruffled Jean Pasko but with a different flare. I've always loved the way JP looks. Do you know anything about the background of this one? It would be interesting to see where the dark edge came from. You did good Shirley. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Brugie.

I received unrooted cuttings from Poppysue last year. This is the first year its bloomed.

BTW, it is getting darker the 2nd day.

Thanks gumlla and Shelly 221.

Gypsy Queen holds up very well in my heat and humidity too! Which is a big plus in my area!!

Nice plant! I was looking at the pictures in PDB: http://davesgarden.com/pdb/go/53943/index.html. Gypsy Queen looks a bit like Jean Pasco, only less orange and (apparently) better at keeping its flowers open during the day.

Thanks so much, Monika.

TomH, there are similarities between Gypsy Queen and Jean Pasco, but my Gypsy Queen is more orangey and the bloom has wavy edges. I don't know the parentage of Gypsy Queen. Does anyone know it???? Perhaps that may explain it.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

My notes say it's an Eric Knight cross of Dr Seuss and Solid Gold, siblings are Melon Kisses and Tequila Sunrise...one of my best bloomers and one of my top 5, I love everything about this one, including her tutti-frutti day scent and DS-like nite scent and the all important bug resistance :)

Thanks for the info, Shirley1MD and Violabird! Vi, from your picture it looks like GQ has a longer calyx and corolla tube than JP. I am glad to hear about the bug resistance! My JP has hardly had a nibble. Here she is tonight (sorry for hijacking your thread, Shirley!)

Not a problem TomH. We're all here to learn! Your picture is beautiful!!

Thanks so much, Vi for all your help and great picture too. It's extremely helpful to know the parentage, as well as, the offspring that are so similar in appearance! Wonder if this type of info could be added to our Brug Database...............oh Terry...........
