Seed pods

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

I have alot of seed pods on my (supposed to be black currant Datura. We have had alot of wind and still some to come. Can you take the pods off still green and let them ripen off the plant?

Hi Nancy, I really don't think they will continue to ripen if you take them off. I'm far from an expert, but I just don't think it will work. I've had pods that I thought would be ripe in a few weeks.....and most have taken more than a month from the time I thought they would be ready. You might try a few and see if it works for you. Good Luck!

Carol, it'll probably be best for them to ripen on the plant like Brinda said. Pull a piece nylon hose over them to catch the seeds.

Thanks guys, I will do the panty hose number. I must have 50 pods the size of golf balls on the three purple I have. I guess I could ytake a few off . Thanks Carol

Carol, if you want it to bloom more, you probably should take most of them off and wait for the next blooms to form seed pods.

Ada, Took your advice. Thanks, Carol
