The tropicals at their best...

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

After a two week vacation I thought for sure I'd come home to dead plants. Imagine my surprise to see that they all lived and thrived.

Gorgeous!!!! Love caladiums too. Mixed them this yr w coleus, dusty miller, rubrum grass and blue salvia. wish i had a digital. Hope Santa is listening.
What is the plant in front of your canna? It looks like fatsia, but it is burgundy. I have Canna x generalis "America" and that would be perfect with it.
Your home is also beautiful!

Oh Kristi! Your place looks just fantastic!!!

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Very nice...wherever did you learn to design like this??? :-)

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Everything is perfect, perfect lawn, shrubs, flowers. Who in the world is your gardener/handyman? HA!!! I know!

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Thank you everyone! It's my only full sun area. I wish like heck that it was in the back yard. It's a little to wild for the front.

Smooth -it's a castor bean that came up from last years seeds, it just managed to stay dwarf or maybe it's sickly? I do have a HUGE Tetrapanax in the back area. I sware it's on steroids. It's so big.

Kyle- your aways so sweet! Design? I just throw it all together and hope for the best LOL..... Plus I'm a big honking plant geek and read everything I can find about plants. I always have fun along the way. If it doesn't look good together I rip it out. My compost pile and I are very close.

Oh Gloria your a doll. Bruce (hubby) likes to have flat-flat-flat shrubs he also likes to prune things into little round balls. LOL.... You ought to see my typical Jersey shrubs in my back area. I'm embarrassed to take a picture of them. This is why I never take a picture of my pool from the house. The 'Jersey' shrubs live in a planter there. LOL I promised him I wouldn't take out his beloved shrubs as long as I could plant as I wanted out front. I think now he's wishing he never made that deal. His idea of gardening is round ball shrubs and lots of mulch.

Kristi, your yard looks wonderful, as usual. I love that single caladium. Great markings on it. Do you ever sit down and rest. I can't imagine getting it all planted, let alone keeping it watered. Everything is so healthy. You and Kyle both do some awesome plantings.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Absolutely gorgeous! Bravo to you. Even the grass looks good. lol. I should get so lucky that everything would look as good as that.
Which one is the red castor?

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

beautiful, beautiful garden. on the next to last pix, what isthe plant above the red caladium? Is it acanthus or is it some kind of fig? gorgeus!

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Vossner it's a hardy fig. I collect them. I love the foliage on them and sometimes I'm lucky and even get a fig or two.

Birmingham, AL(Zone 8a)

OMGosh if I don't get some of that burgundy castor bean I will DIE!!!!!

I LOVE your yard! Great job.

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

For those of you who liked the castor bean, you have to grow them from seed. Many nurseries will not sell the whold plant as they are EXTREMELY poisonous.

Beautiful yard, nice, healthy plants. I'm in love with the Lespedeza, will it grow in my zone 10b?
Wouldn't mind having the castor bean either.
You've done a great job!!

Very pretty yard and such healthy plants. Thanks for sharing.

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Thanks guys. This was last seasons bed. This year I'm trying to tone it down a bit and not put as many tropicals in there. I love them but it really gets to be too much in the fall. Carol the tropicals get pulled up but there are many perennials in the beds as well. It is my only full sun bed.
