Before Hurricane Frances came I went to my Vet's office to get tranquelizers. They had a secure shelter (full), adequate supplies for a week, and a Tech was going to stay with them through the storm. After the storm, my grandson put up a temp fence around the patio and a small piece of yard. Big fence blew down. Rocky and Rosey were beyond happy!! Then....Rocky ran in the house holding his left front foot up. No blood, no puncture I could see, foot swelling rapidly. I called the Vet, of course, got a message that they had no power but were working with the Humane Society for emergencies and new patients. If no emergency, and regular patients, they would check the machine and call back. Long story short.....swelling went down, probably an insect sting, ( I thought snake) and they called me back as promised!!!!!
This little story might not make sense to many of you. To put it in perspective, people doctors and hospitals were not as prepared. Many hospitals had to be evacuated because of damage, others had generator failure and had to turn away emergency patients. Doctors could not be reached for RX s. Because of the length of the storm, diabetics and people who had to keep meds cool were running out of ice. Our radio station became a clearing house for people who needed these things and our "heroes" that are helping them. If your power comes on, and you have a generator, you take it to someone else. We have MANY great heroes!
The key to this disaster is the length of time the storm was here. Everybody had prepared for 3 days max, except my vet!!! He provided instructions, comfort and compassion. AND HE CALLED ME BACK!!!!

Praise for my Vet!
