WOW, how old is that plant

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

OK, OK !!! Looks beautiful ! But, what I would like to know.....how do you get so many buds to open at once?! There must be a secret that I am unaware of! Mine have one bloosom open at a time, the most two!! They are all new cuttings and plants and seeds since April.

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

I feel so lucky....this is a cutting I recieved last March, so it's not that old. Obviously tane from above the mama plants Y area (bloom area). It's one MsCritterKeeper sent me, and once again I can't find my notes telling me what it is.
I really gotta start a journal........................
We had a heavy wind and rain squall last night so the blooms are now all in tatters and shreds.
I am SO glad I thought to snap a picture last evening.
Here today, gone tomorrow :(

Nice blooms, are some more fragrant than others? This is the first year for me to have brugs. I think mine is a Pink Frosty. It has been loaded with blooms but you have to be very close to smell a scent. My second is smaller and hasn't bloomed this year. It has really grown. It is about 3 feet now.
What do you start your cutting in Riker? My sister is dying to have one. I have been looking at the pic of others plants. The sererated, and variegated ones are nice to. The double are beautiful. Where does it stop. First hosta then daylilies and now brugs!

This is/was my first year with Brugs, so everything that has happened with them has been by pure luck. I did not feed them as much as I read you should. I have feed them with altering types of fert. One week with alfalfa tea, wait two weeks than I fed with bloom booster MG.
I also didn;t water as often as I think I should have either, which may have added to how small the potted ones have stayed.
The blooms smell stronger the older they get it seems. So yes some are more fragrant than others just because they're older.
I rooted all 5 cuttings I have in old fish aquarium water (full of nutrients), and I used an air stone to help reduce chances of rot. ( I do that with any and all water cuttings I take)
I am now starting to get small buds forming on the3 other brugs I have planted in the ground behind the hot tub. Those should be yellow and white flowers I think I remember CG and ?
This year is my early education year when it comes to Brugs. The next lesson is "Over Wintering"....potted plants and ground dwellers. :-0

All it takes is the first year to get your feet wet and then you are on your way. It will be interesting to see how many you grow next year. Brugs are kind of like those potato chips.....you can't have just one (five). LOL!

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

Hi, Brugie
Just how many do you have? I am already thinking about finding new colors. I really need a greenhouse to overwinter my stuff. I love banana plants and other tropicals too. Being in zone 6, it is hard. Do you have a greenhouse?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I have a small greenhouse that I use for pushing brug seedlings in the spring and for starting annuals. It is too small to use for anything else and Iowa is too cold for me to put heat in a big one. Numbers of brugs here change almost from month to month. I have, including seedlings, over 150 this year. That is about 125 too many on hot days.

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

Goodness, do you leave them in pots for the summer? I planted mine in a new flower bed that had lots of Dads decomposed angus manure. They grew like crazy. My husband thought I was growing okra in the flower bed!

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

I did this year yes....but only two of them....the pinks.

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

I talked to a lady today that has about 10 angel trumpets. She starts them from the sprout on the stalk. Just in soil! She has loads of other plants too.

Rikerbear, your brug looks great, glad that you've had some success form them. They're great aren't they.

Well Linda I am enjoying them, as I do many of my plants. The scent is wonderful, and the bloom interesting through all its stages......but I don't see myself becoming an all out Brug-maniac.
They're okay, but so are lots of things.
Gosh I hope these aren't fighting words to some :-)

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

Marc, it's a good thing we are all different. Can you imagine us all liking the same thing in plants!!

Boring! Besides, that means more brugs for the rest of us! I have a friend who's really into cactus & succulents. Not my bag, I personaly think they look ugly all year except when they're blooming for a couple of days. But, that's just me. She can't see the attraction to my brugs either. We get along great though.

Oh I like my brugs don't get me wrong....I just don't see myself going hog wild with them. All that could change once the seedlings start blooming next year. And I am planning to add at least two more named brugs to my collection.
I just have to have Pink Floyd, and Dr. Seuss (long story hehehehehehe)
