Melochia tomentosa

The small violet-pink blooms standout on this subshrub which takes very little water.

The leaves resemble a perennial verbena from what I can see.
Boy, it is dry here now...that drought resisitant characteristic would be welcome.
One of my forsythia bushes is in full bloom. Totally weird.
Neat plant you posted, I never heard of it before.

Okay, I edited mine, too.

It is a native Texas plant which is found throughout the Texas Hillcountry where it likes rocky limestone soil. I had never seen it before either. I found it at my favorite local nursery that specializes in native plants. I bought one yesterday and was happy that the price was 40 percent off. I am planting it in a tiny flowerbed between the street curb and the sidewalk. There is planty of limestone there and it is an extremely hot area. Although the blooms are small, the plant is covered with them which gives it a medium purplish pink tone at a distance. The leaves do look like a verbena in shape, but they are a more grayish green. Thanks for your comments.

Sounds like you did a lot of research into finding the right spot for it...hope it does well for you (I know it will).
Did you get my email about taking a shipment of plants in the next week or so?

I have not checked my email, but will.

Oh me too! It is always much later when I read something and gasp at the missing letters, reversed letters, etc. Just proves we are all human.
