Until now I thought this guy was pure white. It's so hard to tell when he flits about so actively and constantly. But today he and either his mate or his foe were dancing all over my terrace bed and once in a very great while they'd stop for a breather. My patience (and standing still as a statue so as not to make them take their dance elsewhere) paid off. Now I know he's not pure white, but has a spot in the middle of his wing and a grey area at the tip. Anyone have any clues who he is?

And I finally got THIS guy to sit still long enough...
can anyone find these very good hide-n-go-seek players?
Silly you! ;)
Your butterfly looks like the Cabbage White, Artogeia rapae. Introduced from Europe into America (and also to Australia). It is a real pest in the gardens, feeding its caterpillars on all members of the Cabbage family.
Good thing I don't have any cabbages? ROTFLMAO (what family is the cabbage in anyway LOL) Well, I think he's pretty. Maybe he's the one whose larvae are eating the roots of my grass? LOL Oh well, no one's loss if grass gets eaten...it's just a pain to mow anyway ;-)
