This is a tropical planter I did in Downtown that was hard to show the size of it...so here goes from the second floor of the parking garage next to it...sorry bout the lighting..its in shade most of the day now.Fall you know. :-)
Still More tropical planters
Awesome. I'd love to have the planter and the flowers next year. Did you have to fill them with soil too?
Brugie, no. they are slightly mounded in the center then after the summer season we plant almost 3000 tulips in each of 4 of this size planters just at this garage. :-)
Gosh, get pictures next spring. That would be about as good as going to Pella's tulip festival.
WOW!!! That looks amazing!!
DM is lucky to have you Kyle! What a great job you have done!
Beautiful! Do you treat the tulips as annuals or do they return? Would you be willing to list some of the plants in the planter for us copycat gardeners?
Kyle, that looks great. It is so big; glad you included the van you drive so we can get an idea how big it is. I would love to see a picture of the tulips, too.
Great job Kyle!!!!
I like to see pictures of the tulips also. Roz you are right. When Kyle included the van it gaves us some perspective on how big that bed really is. Man that took allot of work and sweat. Thank you Kyle for letting us enjoy them too. : o)

eh cuzin akamai -
Do you get to "plan and direct planting"...or do you have to do all the planting yourself as well? Come on...be honest, now!!!
Regardless...you are very talented!!! They are beautiful.
da Auntie
How artistic you are!!!! Beautiful!!!
Very very beautiful, Eclipse!! I love it!!
Wow! those look great Kyle.
Sylvi, the tulips are treated as annuals.after they bloom..say buhbye! Then the tropicals go in.
Auntie kalola, I grow, I design and I plant all my planters I do.I have helpers to unload the plants and run to the greenhouse for more. But to get the beds "Right" I have to lay them out then plant them.Doesn't bother me any...I'm use to working hard. I'm A gardener!!! :-)
Well, if you want it done right. . .
I think you have the best job ever, Kyle! You get to indulge your every whim and someone else supplies the space and the plants! Oh wow, and I just realized you get paid to do it also! You really are a smart one!
LOL
So do you dig up all the plants and grow them in the GH thru winter to be reused next year?
That is fabulous! So many plants of different colours ..so lush! Great Job!
Kyle ,
The beds are AWESOME ! You do a great job in design and display ! WOW !
Elva
As always Kyle, your plantings show how much talent you have. They are just wonderful.
Outstanding as usual Kyle!
I believe that such art and beauty comes from the soul of this man .
Gardening does enrich all of our souls given a chance.
Kyle , yur 'da bestest !
Kyle
what do you do with them in the fall?
I mean
do you wait till frost and yank them
or pull them and save them BEFORE a frost
do you GH them till next year or start fresh?
kell and CC I dig them up(tropicals) when the nights start to hit 47-50 F regularly, I pot them up an stash them in the greenhouse.Spring comes and out they go again. I don't save all the tropicals, just the hard to replace ones.I grow many of these plants from cuttings of stock plants over winter. :-)
Impressive, Kyle! I have been there and seen them in person and they are much more
beautiful than a picture can show. You make so many people happy to walk around
downtown Des Moines. Who would ever believe . . . . in Iowa? ;)
Thanks ya'll...makes my job worthwhile. :-)
Well sad to say the beds are getting torn out on Monday,to make way for the fall display. I got lots of potting to do.... :-(
Oh shoot. They were so pretty. Now we will need pictures of the fall displays. Are you planting tulips under all the mums or whatever you are putting in now?
Eclipse,
I hope you will take pictures of your new fall displays . I know I am looking forward to them. Thanks again for the great tropical pictures. I truly enjoyed reading the threads and checking out the pictures.
