Now the time is getting close to protecting the pond with netting. This will be my first year at trying it on my pond. Calling on all you ponders that have some experience at it. My pond is 12 ft X 40 ft. So is it better to do it in sections or all at ounce? Give your expertize as how to do it and the mistakes to not make before buying. All information for us new ponders to consider. Thanks Ted
Pond netting
There is an open weave mesh out there available at fabric stores that is a synthetic. Extremely light weight but not so durable. It's the material you see wrapped around little party favors at baby and bridal shower parties. In sections of 4' by 12', I would think it would be strong enough to withstand the weight of leaves and a decent breeze providing the leaves were removed regularly. This is what I use but my pond is considerably smaller than yours. Frames can be made of pvc so that you could use it year to year. I used regular old stakes. The one thing I had issues with was height. If it is too low, it might trap frogs and other critters from exiting or entering your pond. You might have to fiddle with it a little for such a decent sized pond. You might also want it high enough to be able to sink in the middle a tince from the weight of leaves. Sure will help take the load of any mechanical or biological filters you have if you can reduce the leaves before they get in the pond. Much easier to dump leaves from a netting of some sort than to have to have your skimmer do double time or net them out yourself. There are also those who use bird netting.
Bought a net from E-bay already. 10 x 6 Meters. Got a good deal on it being on my E-Bay credit card I had 42.00 worth of credit points to use. I like the deal they have as I pay off my card every month anyway.
