Growing on the edge of my pond. After several years shows no sign of spreading.

Hi! I recently saw this growing near my mother-in-law's pond also. What can you tell me about it? She has a good number of plants - they are interesting looking but hopefully not invasive..

Look for my posting of this plant in the plant ID Forum. It will scare you.

Wow. Guess I better tell her!!! Sounds like Kudzu!!! Scary business. Thanks!

It has not spread around my pond for several years. Our neighbors that raise goats said they did have some of this plant, but the goats completely wiped it out. The goats eat everything but Primroses and grass.

Well now I know what to get her from Christmas! LOL

I hope you got rid of that seed head before the seeds matured? That is the nastiest weed I have ever battled. I've been trying to kill nutsedge for two years now. Horrible, horrible stuff.

Hey Treelover3 - I have not told my M-I-Law yet. She unfortunately will not do anything even when I do tell her. She is 'gardening ignorant' and will roll her eyes at me. I may sneak down there with some Round up though. After all, I may inherit this area one day! lol Hopefully not soon but it is gorgeous and have seen wild Trillums there!

Now I know where from.

The photo looks like a different species, possibly Cyperus odoratus. There are over 700 species in this genus, and in photos like this many are indistinguishable.
