My Beautiful Eucalyptus
Silver Dollar Gum (Eucalyptus cinerea)
Sure is beautiful. I am in Ft. Lauderdale and I was considering planting one. How old is your tree? Nancy Lee
Hi Nancy. Sorry to have taken such a long time to respond!
My tree is two years old and is now up to my second story. I had to brace it after the windy rain storms we had after the hurricanes moved up to GA but the tree is magnificent and graces my entry way in style. I bet your location would be wonderful for a euc. Best wishes!
Nancy
Thanks, the next time I see one, it will be mine!!
Hi. Nancy,
It sure is beautiful.
Can it stand the wet weather during Hurricanes ?
How much rain do you get ?
Siung Yang from China.
Hi
I don't know if it will because I have not gotten one as yet. In the process of redoing a lot of my garden, so I am holding off at this time.
June-end if October is our rainy season. It usually rains somewhat every afternoon, In the low lying areas near the ocean or canals, there is sometime a little flooding but it goes away in a day. That happens a few times a season.;
Last year was a bad hurricane season for Florida; we had 4 within a month and a half. Fortunately I was spared any major damage. One knocked our fence over a little bit and we had to have it straightened, but that was it. More aggrevation than anything for us. But about 40 miles from here was a different story; they lost everything down to the weeds. On this site so many people are still looking for replacement of some of their plants and some also are STILL looking for replacement of their roof! There was so much damage, so wide spread, it has been hard to re-coop. I am very blessed.
Take care and thanks for the post.

Hey Nancy,
I live in Lilburn and just purchased a silver dollar at Hastings on Peachtree St. I got a 3 gallon plant and was wondering how big the root systems get on these? I would like to place it next to my pond stream but don't kow how far away to place it so it doesn't grow under my liner and raise it.
Mine is growing very, VERY slowly. But it's still alive. It's near my lake, but I don't think that any roots has found the water. As far as being invasive, I don't think that it is like the ficus. But what do I know? I'm still learning.

It has been suggested that the plant in your image is Eucalyptus pulverulenta based on lack of petiole, rounded leaves that almost go around the stem, and opposite arrangement. Here a few sites for comparison:

If you feel this is correct, please submit an error report or respond here.
