Sedum Lawns?

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Last year our lawn was attacked by craneflies and it hasn't been the same since. We need to start over. I just hear on HGTV that sedum is gaining popularity as a ground cover rather than grass-- never needs mowing or watering. Has anyone tried this, and if so, how do you like it?? This sounds like an interesting idea.
