Hi Ya'll from Seward, Alaska

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Hi Ya'll,

Newbie here and just wanted to introduce myself. It's great to be here! My gardening buddy here in Seward led me to this wonderful spot. Thanks Weezengreen! For helping me out with so much, answering those pesky questions, pointing me in some good directions, and for the lovely Trollius you found for me this summer!!

And thanks smiln32 for the nice welcome note!

FairFolk
Welcome from Pakistan, Nice to see another member from Alaska, my dream land, I love snow, forest, wildlife and people of Alaska. Want to see the beauty of Alaska with your eyes.

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Fairfolk, good to see you on Dave's! We now have three subscribers from Seward! You're going to meet lots of wonderful people here, and Dave's made this so user friendly, you'll think you're at your own kitchen table! Be sure to add Cool Climes to your forum choices. Its a new forum for those of us who garden in cooler climates.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Fairfolk, I have been lucky enough to visit your fair area and it was so beautiful I did not want to come home! I came back from AK with Lobelia etc etc etc plants that I had not seen here in the hot South. Sadly for me my Great Aunt and Uncle moved from Anchorage after 20+yrs to Wilmington, NC so Iost my AK, 'contacts.' However, I plan to visit your great state again as soon as my finances render it possible!! I know you tackle unbelieveable weather but what a GORGEOUS place to live!

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Thanks to all for your warm welcome!!

Yes, Alaska is very beautiful and we do love it here for many resons! The only problem I have with it here is our growing and gardening season is so short.

I came here to Alaska a bit over 10 years ago from CA. I thought I was a pretty good gardner then...only to have to totally relearn gardening with a very different mindset...lol

I'm originally a Mountain States farm girl and my husband and I have contemplated heading back to Montana so we can have a nice big garden. I sure miss my cherry and apricot trees here in Alaska. I also miss growing enough vegies and fruits to put up for the winter.

I'm also a weaver and spinner and heading down to Montana, we could have a place for some animals for my wool. Wouldn't mind a few Alpacas...lol

gumlla,
I'll have to see if I can dig up some lovely pics of our area to post for you. : ^ )

ncgardenaddict,
If'n ya ever do come up to our neck of the woods again, you'll have to let us know so we can share our gardens with ya! : ^ )

Crossville, TN

WElcome....You do have a good gardening buddy...she is great. This will soon become a second home to you as it is to us. I thought you were "southern" with that Ya'll you posted....LOL Jo....a misplaced southerner.

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Hi Jo,

Ya know...I've always wanted to go to the south, especially Savannah, GA to see the gardens. Love Wisteria but can't do that here in AK...lol

Yep, both Carols that post on Dave's from Seward are great. I've been known to go over to their gardens and bug 'em with questions. I've learned a lot from both of 'em!

Thanks fer the Welcome Jo!!!

Hey, Magpie... we Seward Carol's have earned all that praise, you know.... well, at least the other Carol has, but I'm always glad to ride on her coat tails!

Seward, AK

My head hurts with this huuuuuge swelling!!! Ya Rebecca, things tend to get out of hand with that goofy Weez throwing the funnies about like she was scatterin' wildflower seed, no, make that sluggo... lol
I'm hip deep in crabapple juice ( 5 gallons!). Just doing Steve Adams a favor and pruning his tree which had its lower branches lying on the ground from so much apples and the wind storm we had a few days ago. Anyhow, just the pruned limbs gave up 5 buckets of crabapples! Need any crabapples, Rebecca? ... Carol

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Absaroooootley, I'll take some of those crabapples!!! I'll give ya buzz today or tomorreee.

Feeling a bit under the weather....went up to Anchorage for my upper and lower GI's fer the last two days and still feelin' just a tad weak. But would like to come and visit ya tomorreee sometime. : ^ )

Yep, that wind storm was cool.....cept it kept blowing open my locked front door...lol Think I need a new front door....lol

Heya Carol,

Those look so nice!!!

Remember that crab apple tree that you saw here at the new house? We cut it down to the base, with the boles, the disease and all, wasn't worth keepin'. But new shoots are coming up from the roots, as we didn't dig out the whole thing.

Think we need to get that stump out one way or another. Daniel wants to put a small brick patio on the edges of the new deck we're puttin' in. I'm not so sure about that, so am going to put it in the landscaping program and see how it looks. I'ld much rather have the grass for more intense wide spread crocket games...lol

I'll be heading out for some garden visits tomorree. Gonna stop by ceeady and yer garden and maybe catch up a bit and chit chat.

Do ya want any carrots? I've got too many fer us to use and I need to pull 'em before they get woody.

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Hiya darius,

Thanks fer the warm welcome!! I've been using that name online for a long time. I actually got it from a Celtic Historian author. I figured it fit my heritage....True Scotswoman through and through. : ^ ) Now if I could just get that English garden look in my flower beds here in Alaska...lol

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Hi, Fairfolk... just read your message this AM. Love to see you stop by! My gardens are looking pretty 'end of season', but I still have lots of plants in pots. I'll give you some to take home and stick in the ground before freeze... and I'd never turn down a fresh carrot or two... want some Swiss Chard or kale?

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Hi FairFolk, welcome from the hot, dry, red-rock canyon country of Utah. Watch it, if Weezin' didn't warn you Dave's can be so addicting you forget you're supposed to be out in the garden.

Hiya Blooms,

I'm very familiar with your area! : ^ ) I was born in Utah. Spent a lot of time in Wyoming and Montana as well.... and of course Pocatello, Idaho, fer the grand rodeo they had there. But the last time I was in Utah was in '91 when my Da passed. I hadn't been there for many many years. But drivng through Utah valley in '91, after a summer thunder shower, with the smell of that sweet grass, I hung my head out the window of the car, I hadn't thought that I would ever get to smell that sweet scent again.

I love the Moab area! As a young girl, also used to live on a farm down by Mountain Carmel Jct, the road that comes up from Zion, then heads up to Bryce Canyon. Sheep, thus the weaver/spinner in me.

In my younger years, ahem.... I was a climber/Mountaineer and spent a lot of time climbing in the Wasatch and Uintas, then heard the call of the Sierras... Then the call of Alaska...not much of a flatlander...lol

Thanks fer the warm welcome!! : ^ )
