I finally got a pink!

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

I sure hope this one holds her color on subsequent blooms -- she's very different looking.

Her hybridizer is T. McLeod.

Ohhhhhhhhhh that's gorgeous!!! Which one is this cross by T. McLeod Gretchen??? Wow

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Julie -- thanks! She is quite interesting. I just hope her color holds -- the other two that bloomed pale pink initially, are now blooming off-white. This is one of 7 Whiskers X ? that I'm raising.

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

Oh wow, I'm growing her out too!!!!!! Now I'm excited wooooo hoooooooooo...I have buds but not big enough yet far, I just went out to take a look see and yep, she has buds all over!!! Thanks Gretchen, she is GORGEOUS!!!

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Julie -- you're welcome, but don't get too excited. This is the fourth or fifth one of this cross that's bloomed for me, and they've all been pale yellow to cream color...

Edited to add -- I sure do hope you get something gorgeous out of the cross!

Very Nice! Judging from the yellow in the bloom she should get even darker for you.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

Wow, that's a beauty, Gretchen.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Wow, do you ever........have a pink one!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Beautiful and different Gretchen...please post as the bloom gets older. Anxious to see it!

Thank you all! I will take some more pictures when she opens up tonight...

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Nice color Gretchen. I hope it gets darker for you. Can you tell I'm into dark colored brugs? I still want a good bright yellow that doesn't turn orange and one good orange that doesn't change color. I'm watching this one. So far it is looking like it will stay yellow. I'm on the second flush of flowers now. This is one of Susie's crosses.

Looks so big Grethen! Big and pink! LOL Isn't this so much fun?

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Thank you Shirley and Kell!

Shirley -- your yellow is lovely! I have a seedling that is on its third bloom -- can't call it a flush, because each time its only two or three flowers -- but they are a gorgeous lemon yellow about 12" long by 8" across, and it smells divine. Here's a picture of her. And, she stays yellow until the end.

Kell -- I haven't measured, but it is a big flower. The calyx was so big and fat before it popped, that it looked inflated. For the past couple of days I watched as lots of yellow and short tendrils emerged. I totally figured it was going to be another white. Believe me when I say I was utterly shocked to see this lovely when I went out with the dogs this morning! Yes, it is lots of fun!!!

That is beautiful, how the yellow tendrils mix with the rose edge. Is the yellow only from the tendrils and half up the major veins or do you also find it somewhere on the edges?
Tonny

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Tonny -- thank you! One of the blooms had a mottled pink/yellow edge, but the other one only had it on the ribs and spurs. I will post another picture when she re-opens tonight.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

I'm sure happy for you Gretchen! With all the work you've done, you deserve a new pink :) I must say that I love the yellow one too. Please post as many pics a you like!

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Thanks Vi! I'm hoping to see this new one open tonight, but she's evidently a sleep all day, late-night-party-girl LOL! Maybe tomorrow morning if I get up early enough... Need to dose everything with my new Messenger tomorrow, so that's a good incentive, I guess! Good evening to everyone :)

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Beautiful blooms, I've been in the yard all day too, and it's time to retire.

Raleigh, NC(Zone 7b)

Gretchen, that is so cool! I hope it keeps the color mix and star pattern. You are queen of the 6+ point brugs this year - congratulations!

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Weew!! Finally Gretchen! Congratulations!!!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Congrats, Gretchen.

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

WOW-------- what beatifull blooms, kell you have created this addicted woman, now it will drive me crazy to get that first bloom.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Thank you all! She is a fun one!!!

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Gretchen, your pink is to die for, sooooo beautiful, soooo different, I've never seen anything like it - does it smell as good as it looks??

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

You know I only live about 15 miles or so from my house to Gretchen's. Do you think if I snuck over there and took a piece that she might think it was a deer, or do you think she would know it was me?

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Go, grannie, Go!
(I've waited a long time to say that :)

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

I think, grannie, had you not mentioned it on this post, you may have gotten away with it! But NEVER now!! Gretchen will be on the watch out for you now!

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

You all are too cute!

It smells very good -- kind of like a Frosty. Lots more buds, so hopefully she'll stay pink, and if she maintains this two tone look, she'll be a definite keeper! I've looked through lots of pictures and I've never seen one quite like this...

I hope you are all having a blessed holiday!!!

Gretchen

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

Well, darn, I'm not too swift am I. I completely gave away my plan. LOL

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Sylvia...you are too funny! LOL... I'm glad you like her :) I just hope she continues to bloom like this!!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Gretchen, does your pink one still have the same coloring now that it is a day or two older? I hope it remains like this. Pretty.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Hi Shirley -- yes it does, although it got too hot yesterday and is suffering from a little browning of the edges today :( But, her color held. Plenty more buds, and I sprayed her down today with Messenger... so we'll see.

Here she is around 2:00 PM today in the rain:

And I want to add that her blooms are huge -- I haven't measured, but they are considerably larger than anything else I have blooming at the moment.

Still a beauty

What a knock-out !
How old was the bloom in the last picture ?

Watch out for 'grannies in sheeps clothing ' ............. LOLOLOL

Woodville, TX(Zone 8a)

Gretchen that is so pretty. My one pink finally bloomed and was very light but I love it anyway. It was a trade and one of my first so I'm happy. Someday I'll have as many as you (in my dreams). Jenny

Mirpur (A.K), Pakistan(Zone 9b)

Congrats.....very beautiful.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Thank you all!

Scoot -- that was her third day, but the day before that our temp was around 100. She's in full sun and just cooked...On another note, we are getting ready to construct one of the PVC stands. How many one-gallon containers do you think it will hold. You built one last year, didn't you?

Jenny -- you never know.......................this time last year I had none, and today I have 70 in the ground, a few in pots and 9 new seedlings started. Plus some more seeds to start as soon as my rockwool order arrives :)

Thanks again to all of you! Let's just hope she continues to bloom like this :) Gretchen

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

Gretchen,
. Above all ! ! ! !! .

>>>> Glue the joints with the PVC stuff. My stand wracked so bad I almost lost everything. It was loaded with trays full of 1/2 gal. pots . I caught it just in time before it all came crashing down. This set-up is good for seedling trays but beyond that be carefull. Email me if you need more.
