i wonder if any of u has grown this brug? this is Snowhermit/Terry's hybrid... Dr. D x Whiskers. i'd like to know if there is a name given to it yet. i did not grow the seed, David shared a cutting with me last year. this brug is a prolific grower and produces waves of flushes, one after the other.

Dr. Seuss . there are other brugs that are in buds galore, so far none has opened yet on other brug cuttings and seedlings i am growing. this is the 1st time, after several years of growing brugs that i am enjoying early bloom in flushes. Alfalfa Pellets has really done wonders on my plants. i am expecting more blooms as the weather gets cooler in the desert.

Enjoyed all your pics MaVie. Thanks for sharing. I also used alfalfa pellets this summer.

Great pics, MaVie.

Your brugs look wonderful MaVie!

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

Beautiful brugs, Mavie. The only 2 that have bloomed for me so far are my "Old Faithful" and L'Amour. DH keeps asking me when they are all going to bloom, so that I know which ones I want to keep. He thinks I have too many. You never get too many I keep telling him. LOL

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

Hibiscus, do you plant your Brugs outside, and do you bring them in for the winter? guess you can tell I am new with Brugs and getting addicted.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Looking great Ma Vie. Just yesterday I was asking about you. Glad to see you are doing so great!

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Kareoke:

Yes, I have some planted in the ground, others in pots. I have to bring all tropicals inside over winter. I have been growing them for 5 yrs. and I too am addicted.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Thanks Everyone, i do appreciate ur input. so glad to share the abundance of budding/blooms of the brugs growing in my yard. basing on the growth of brugs this year here in the desert, i now know which ones perform well in the heat or cold weather. am keeping notes for future references.

Sylvia, i have not done anything else ... just the routine feeding i have noted in my previous postings.

Kell, is KGG very light in color? i tried to do some search but the search option was offline from what i noticed, each time i try to do a search on previous postings. i have other cuttings and plants grown from seed from last year that are in buds and ready to bloom soon. i like the Golden Lady but she never drop her skirt LOL! she is still very neat and dainty, and i enjoy her blooms.

i have been wanting to know if Dr. D x Whiskers was given a name yet. i ask Terry and David, either one of them is aware if it was given a name yet. it is a prolific bloomer that comes in waves... every 3 weeks am getting replacement of flushes, and bountiful blooms on that one plant.

MaVie , The brugs you sent me are doing great. If you still need PB let me know.

Shirley,
Dr. D x Whiskers functions real well during hot hot weather. although at the moment it is filled with tons of buds, it is slow to bloom as the weather is getting cooler here. night time temperature is in the lower 50's these days, whereas day time temps in lower 80's.

Solid Gold is activating real well during cooler months. the whole plant is filled with buds ready to bloom.

here is Kell's Girly Girl, two days later. another cooler temperature performer.

Okay.. where do we get these alfalfa pellets? Would rabbit poo work?

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

Debra, Alfalfa pellets are made from chopped and dehydrated alfalfa and is a food source for livestock. Not the same as poo. Poo might work faster because the starting plant material has been partially digested (broken down) by the rabbit. Alfalfa pellets have to break down (decay) before a plant can use the nutrients in it. While the alfalfa is breaking down, the pellets are actually taking nitrogen from the soil. It would be best to throw the pellets into the compost pile and let them break down there before using them on a plant.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

ohhh okay.. thanks. Was wondering if Rabbit poo Tea would be a good thing to use as brug food. I do not know where I would find any of those pellets. Maybe a livestock store?

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

yes that is one place to begin. in my area, that is the place i buy mine. when i mention i use it for the garden, i am not required to pay sales tax, otherwise u pay more.

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

MaVieRose,

You are lucking out not having to pay taxes. The place you are buying from is not interpreting the tax exemption correctly. The tax exemption law is for agricultural use only and you must have a permit with a number registered with the seller. Whenever I buy anything at our local farm & ranch stores for use on our pastures or cattle, I don't pay tax on those purchases, but when I buy something to use in my garden, I do pay taxes on the purchase. We have our permit number registered with all our local F & R stores.

Premont, TX(Zone 9b)

tax exemption is only for agricultural or farm use ..when i buy at the farm suppy if its for me garden I pay taxes if its for farm use I dont. things like cow feed fence supplies etc are tax exempt

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, but I don't think Uncle Sam is going to follow you home to see if you are feeding it to your cows or putting it in your garden.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

well, I am going to the local feed and seed store, get some pellets, go to my friends that have farms, get some poo, make a big huge tub of tea, add the part that doesn't pour out into gallon jugs to the compost. I pay taxes on everything here, including the water.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

not paying tax on the AP i buy is not my choice, but is what was explained to me by the seller from the farm supply store. i know nothing about those tax exemption. the seller simply ask what i will be using it for, and i told them for growing my plants ... the first time i bought AP. they remember me, i do not have to explain myself.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

That is a good thing! I just figure taxes are part of my world around these parts. Thanks for all the great information !

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

Great photos.. they look like they are doing well... I use the alphalpha pellets on mine in the winter.. and they are decomposing by the spring.. and ready to supercharge the brugs that get planted... along with the manure then... the manure is good for green growth.. but you have to switch to the bloom booosster type ferts to get a big blooming cycle going quicker...
Yes.. the AP are hard to find in NYC.. I can get them for 4 times the price in little bags for rabbit food.. for the horses I pay a small percentage for a bigger bag... usually I find some for horses in NJ or CT ..

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Gordon, for horses aren't they the bigger things I would not call pellets. Don't know what I would call them but they take quite a lot longer to break down don't they?

Jeanette

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

Jeanette..
The horse alfalfa is about the same size as the one for rabbits... you'd not be able to tell them apart by looking at them... perhaps it a different blend... but as far as it being alfalfa.. just twice the price.. I feed it to my earth worms in my planters.. it's hard to find good worm food in the shops.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Guess we are not talking about the same stuff Gordon. The alfalfa I meant was about 2 1/2 inches long and probably 1 1/2 inch around. , shaped like a bullet. Obviously different.

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

OH.. the one I see as horse food is the same size as the rabbbit food... a cylendrical item.... abut 1/2' ,LONG AND ABOUT 3/16 " IN DIAMENTER..

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

note to Jnette and Gordon, pls take note, it is not the size nor shape of Alfalfa that matter but the nutritional supplement the Alfalfa supply to the brugs or plants being grown. as per the alfalfa analysis supplied http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=1305707 from this thread http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/433894/ that thoroughly cover how i use Alfalfa pellets.

unlike how others use it, i simply soak the pellets over night in water, the next day apply what others would call the the "alfalfa tea" to my plants the next day. the process i use alfalfa, i do not have a 'long' waiting period but 12 hrs. i see results after 2-3 weeks. both my plants and the worms love the alfalfa application. as i have once again proven using the alfalfa in my plants this season.

using Alfalfa pellet is so easy and simple, pls. do not make it complicated. Alfalfa pellets are my plants super food. i only use steer manure and Alfalfa pellets on my plant.

Thanks for the compliments on the photos of the plant Gordon, pls remember this is an old thread that has been revived. i lost all my plants due to major illnesses. i am, at the moment ... in the process of starting all over. btw, health wise i am doing fine, so are the plants i nurture these days.
