Its gorgeous!!!!!

That's a beautiful bloom, Jenks. Congratulations! How long did it take to bloom from when you rooted it as a cutting? I have a few of Don's cuttings too, and I can't wait for them to bloom.

Social Circle, GA(Zone 8a)

Julie-THEY ARE! I am SO obsessed! One very nice lady emailed me a long detailed informational pamphlet-I'll have to go see if I can find it. But essentially she said to cut off those round, long stems when they get longer than a foot long, and stick them back in the pot with the plant to get the mass of the plant thicker and the roots-she said they like to be rootbound.

Tropicman-I still have some others I got from you, but would happily take any extra to "thicken the stands" so to speak. Some just barely made it, but all you sent me last winter are still alive-they just grow slower than epi oxy. I will take pictures of the others so you can see them. Some look more cacti like than the leaves you sent! With spines and all growing right off the side of leaves! Padre almost bit the dust, but it got down to about a one inch section of the leaf and sprouted a sport-like I said I'll take pictures.

HEY CLARE! ; )
it took about a year. It seemed to grow faster inside the house this past winter-that was when I did most of the cutting and replanting of the cuttings. I am dying for the others to grow faster! I had gotten this little baggie of this pale green crystal ferilizer out of a round robin-there was no name on it-It had an analysis printed on it-but no name. The analysis was very similar to Miracle Grow's Bloom Booster which is what I usually use, but the stuff worked like I've never seen before!!!!!!!!!!! Everything WOKE up and jumped! I am still trying to figure out what that stuff was-I am almost sure that is what did it, because even the cuttings I was just about to loose hope of getting going (Padre) finally shot some new growth out after almost a year of nothing but the decline of the original cutting!

That is great, Jenks! I would love to see pictures when you can post them. Mine are still starting out also. Here's a few of them:

Clare, they have little spurts growing all over, they look very good.
Did you use a cactus potting mix?
Jenks, mine are in 10 inch hanging baskets, and there trailing down over 5 ft.
I'm cutting off all that growth below the bottom of the basket, they must weigh over 50 lbs, they are very heavy, and the wire shelf in the sunroom, can't handle the weight of 5 baskets that heavy,so there will be lots of cuttings,if you or anybody would like them.

Social Circle, GA(Zone 8a)

5 feet! WOW! I would gladly send you postage for any extra you have except the E. Oxy-I got her going pretty well.

I wanted to make sure I clarify the cutting of stems over a foot long-she said just the round stem part should be kept short-the leaves should be allowed to grow as long as they can as the blooms come from the leaves.......

Tropicman-do you have pictures of these on a thread around here I could see? :D

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Hi Don, thanks! I just used regular potting soil, but the hanging baskets dry out really fast so it works. I think I only lost one cutting out of all of them. I love them so much and can't wait for them to bloom. I will surely post pictures of them when I do. Have you had any of yours bloom this summer besides the Epi oxy?

Don, I would love some more cuttings of them and will gladly pay postage for them:-) I better repot mine before they get heavy like yours.

By the way, is your P. Alata "Ruby Glow" blooming? Maybe yours is too little yet to bloom. Mine is blooming away!

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Jenks,Iwill have to take some pics tomorrow.
Clare, none have bloomed and there so huge,
The Alta Ruby glow vine is about 7 ft,leaves are huge and far apart from each other,I think It needs more sun, altho the Lady Margeret is right next to her and blooming like crazy, what to you think?
Is yours in full sun?

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Hi Don! That's great that it is 7 feet tall. You'll have to wrap it around and around a trellis to bring it in to the greenhouse for the winter. It should bloom for you any time now. Mine is blooming now so yours might soon also. If not now, maybe in another month. Last year, mine bloomed at the end of September and through October. Yes, mine is in full sun, but I think you should still get some blooms in part sun also. P. Lady Margaret is a good bloomer and should bloom for you throughout the whole year.

Here's my P. Alata last month:

I just took this picture last night. The P. Alata "Ruby Glow" is on the far left, and if you look closely, you can see that it is growing on the fence and has turned the corner!

Edit to say: my apologies to Jenks for hijacking your thread!

It's OK Clare! I don't mind a bit! Especially with the pictures! I love to see! ;0)

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Thanks, Jenks. I have a question for you or Don or whoever knows the answer! I went to break off a leaf today off my epiphyllum hybrid to stick it back in the soil, but when I pulled on the leaf, the center core remain stuck and pulled right out of the leaf! Has this ever happened to you? It can't be good. I wonder if this leaf will still root to form another plant? Thanks!

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Great pics, look at all those flowers!!!
No Clare that has never happened to me,it might root, but I doubt it,but you never know.
Here's the eppipys That I will be cutting back,if any one wants any.Over 6ft trailing down from the basket.
