Nice photo of the edulis for sure.....mine are not blooming.....yet :-( Healthy green leaves and sturdy stem, but alas no flowers yet....sigh....what could I be doing wrong? I have them in the ground with acidic soil and in fertile soil, and in containers with potting soil, moist and dry soil and clay rocky soil......am I trying to hard? Probably!

Pretty Don!

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Thanks Marcy,

MMS,sounds like what your doing is great, are they getting full sunshine?

Augusta, WV(Zone 5b)

Tropicman - Yep! Full Sun......is that the problem? I have wonderfully healthy plants, but no flowers yet this year........almost like the morning glory syndrome. I figured maybe they don't like too much nitrogen based fertilzer.....so I starved them.....nothing, but they still look healthy. Last year they did great........when I left them alone, lol. You have nice flowers on all of yours.....I'm envious, good job ;-)

Hey Monterey ,I can't see any difference in the 2 flowers can you?
Yep Dennis probably need a little more sun.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

The blooms look very small compared to the leaves
is that usual?
Or just MONSTER leaves?

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Those are huge leaves! Nice P. Edulis, Don!

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Thanks, and yes they tend to be quite large,is that the norm?

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Hi Don, that is probably the norm, but I've seen some smaller. Maybe they get larger as the vine gets bigger, or perhaps they vary with environmental factors.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Thanks Clare.I'll bet your right.

Check out my Nancy Garrison entry in the database. It has all about edulis.Pics and stuff. The leaves look like lettuce. Here's a full-size plant pic.

Well looks like it,if fruit we'll know more for sure.

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Rich, Don's edulis leaves are definitely larger than yours. It may just be a trait that varies with each hybrid. P. edulis is easily grown from seed so there can be slight differences and variations with hybrids. My last P. edulis leaves were smaller and light green and a little shiny. My current P. edulis leaves are larger and more shiny.

Don, you definitely have a Passiflora edulis. They coloring of the flower and the shiny leaves are characteristic of P. Edulis.

This is last year's P. edulis:

Don what size is the container you have yours in? Could you please take a picture of your whole plant as well.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

The pic that has the whole vine is in the ground, but have another one in gallon pot, vine is about 6 ft long and had 2 blooms yesterday, well try to get a pic for you.
Clare, some of the ones in the ground that hasn't flowered have twice as large leaves as the one in the pic with the flower and all the leaves.
Those I think were all the same seeds for they came out of the same package that I got from Mitjo.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Thanks Don! I have one that's about 10 feet but no blooms yet. :( It's a year old now....maybe my summer wasn't warm enough for it.

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Hi Don! It must be all that wonderful soil you're growing them in! Are you fertilizing them? If so, I would stop! I hear that fertilizing passiflora leads to lots of lush growth at the expense of flowers.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Lil,I think they bloom when they get darn good and ready too! LOL
Clare yes I quit fertilizing everything in the Garden after August 19th.
Yep they went cold turkey,For a while I thought they where having syptoms of withdrawals, they where shaking all over, but then I realized it was just the wind a blowin!!!LOL!

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

LOL, Don! My P. edulis leaves are pretty small, and it hasn't bloom yet this summer, but it is still a very small vine grown from seed. I hope you get some more flowers before the cold approaches.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

I've had about 4 more blooms, the flowers are so far spaced apart, they for some reason are not several in line on a single stem, but scattered around one to a stem. The flowers in the container are bigger than the ones in the ground,go figure that one out!!!

LIl,heres the pic of edulis in container.
