Although the description says this one grows 6-12" in fact, it reaches to 4 feet!

can this be planted from a node of a frond?
it looks like a bush not a plant. at least 3' tall if not more.
got any suggestions? on what it is and how can I submit more than 1 pic?

Astilbe can only be increased from divisions of the root, not as a stem cutting. Your plant does not seem like as Astilbe, rather some member of the Apiaceae (aka Umbelliferae). Members of that family are also only increased by root division.
