Off the deep end

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I go through lots of potting soil when I bring my tropicals in for winter.
I got tired of running to HD every time I needed a bag,so I got a big bag!
1050 lbs of potting soil.
I know I have gone totally nuts now,I gotta figure out how to get it off my truck and into the garage.

Great idea! Where did you get it from? Soil is one of my biggest expenses. Of course I would need a couple of strong men to come along with it. LOL

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Knowing a friend with a crane or forklift would be nice to help unload it.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I got it from a friend that runs a huge warehouse GH.LOL,he asked if I wanted 2.
he also said I could get old bags to till into beds,I just might next spring.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Gosh, what a great way to get soil. Now you need the set up in the garage to dump it into so you can dispense it a little at a time. Shouldn't cost more than a few thousand. LOL!

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

Hmmm, now there is a idea......

Good luck in getting it off the truck.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Where are your Fire Dept buddies? LOL

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I say back it in the driveway ,aprox where you want it
then tie a rope to it and attach the other end to the house or a telephone pole

then peel rubber....LOL

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

CC, you are a can do gal!

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Holy cow!! At first I thought that you got a load of topsoil and were teasing about the bag until I enlarged it. WOW!!! That's a big bag of soil, don't hurt yourself trying to get it off the truck. You don't REALLY need to use the truck for a little while, right? Set up a potting station right there on the back of the truck and use enough of the soil that it won't be so hard to move.

Wait, I just had a better idea! Rooty's mobile potting shed! He can come visit all of us and repot stuff as he goes, taking all of the extra plants and broken branches for himself. He might need that other bag of soil.......and maybe a semi truck!

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I like that Ronna! I have the pots!
Shirley these bags are made to hang over a pot filling table,Hmmm? now you have me thinking!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

did you get it unloaded?

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Not yet,I have to get a spot cleared for it,I may leave it in truck tonight,I don't think anyone will walk off with it.lol

Prattville, AL(Zone 8a)

WOW! Now thats one HUGE bag of soil!

Willacoochee, GA(Zone 8b)

yah, the mini bulk bags are cool....
3.8 compressed normally don't cost much more tho per cu yard.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I have not figurew up the cost versus MG,this one is 60 cubic ft.

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

I will admit it I am envyous cuz that is way too cool. Aside form CC's tie and run, wich I like the idea of by the way, I really really like Ronna's idea. Shoot I would be happy if ya just came by had some coffee while I loaded up my pots and wheelbarrow. I know I always need more soil and pots.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Roots traveling road show,I can see it now!

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Very cool, Root! I don't think you'll run out of potting soil anytime soon, and congrats on pic of the day :) Gretchen

Gonzales, LA(Zone 9a)

I use a lot of potting mix all year long but I make my own by buying the cheap composed cow manure from our favorite store (the one with the blue strip and a million cars out front that you have to park out a mile from the front door) anyway, I add vermiculite, and peat moss to the composed cow do and it really makes good potting soil and a loooooot cheaper than buying the ready mixed stuff. I mix it myself in a big container and keep it stored in the greenhouse, ready for use when I am.

Fremont, CA(Zone 9a)

Back up the truck to the garage door, jack the front of the truck wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy up and it will roll out just where you want it.

Let me know how this idea works out.

If the bag breaks, maybe you could start a soil co-op.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Got it off,the corner popped and spilled a little,I can use that up today.
piece of cake!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

LOL! That is Vince,I have him hooked on Brugs,he is actually happy,he needed some potting soil,I caught him scoping it out in the truck.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I did hook the bag to the garage and pull away,it worked great!

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

Meade, KS(Zone 6a)
