Reseda odorata

The older blooms are a creamy color with the newly opened ones being more whitish.

I wish I could smell that. Tried it from seed once, but the plants were real spindly and died off without blooming. (I wasn't much of a gardener at the time, LOL).

I had never seen this plant nor smelled its fragrance until the other day when I was finally able to visit my favorite nursery again. It is a great plant. I am sorry yours did not survive. Thanks for your comments.

It's a beautiful plant, but seeing the the woody stem and berries, I suspect that it isn't actualy a Reseda odorata, but rather a Lawsonia Inermis L. . Both plants are refered to as Mignonette in some places so identification can be tricky.

I will have to check this out. It was planted in one my favorite nursery's demonstration garden areas with other fragrant plants and was labelled as Reseda odorata. After looking at various photos of Lawsonia inermis and reseda odorata, I have concluded as you have pointed out that the plant is not Reseda odorata, But, the leaves as I remember were not as large as Lawsonia inermis. The bloom clusters and berries hung down and were very small. It was growing in a large container, but appeared to be a subshrub. Perhaps it was some kind of a dwarf. I will go back to the nursery. Hopefully, it is still there and i will talk to them about it. Thanks for your information. I sure don;t want to post a photo of a plant that has been misidentified. :o)

I talked to Dan at the nursery that had this plant last year. He said that it was a Reseda odorata. It is no longer in the container in which I saw it. We searched for it to try to verify its ID, but could not find it. I will keep checking.
