Red leafed hoya

Los Angeles, CA(Zone 9a)

Has anyone been to the Asiatica web site to look at their hoyas? They have one that has small red leaves. Is that available from any other web sites. Is it an unidentified species? Thanks!

Hi Nan...I remember seeing that before and thought it might be a Dischidia...but it could be a Hoya as well. Impossible to tell without seeing the leaves more closely and without a flower. Heck...it could be a H. pottsii but the camera angle makes it look small. Sun/environment can make the leaves turn bright red...and they go back to green once that factor is removed. Why don't you buy it and we can find out!!!??? heehee. ; }

Maybe if we all went in together to pay for shipping, we could buy it. Or maybe I'll just take out a 2nd mortgage to pay for shipping:-).

How do they get away with charging so much for shipping...is the packing material gold leafed?

This is what I was told when I asked why the shipping charges were so expensive.

"We appreciate your concern about the shipping/handling costs. This charge includes not only the shipping charge but also the time spent pulling, labeling, wrapping, and packing your order. Many nurseries do not charge for the packing costs upfront but instead increase the prices of their plants to compensate or they lose money. We prefer to ship via FedEx 2nd Day because it offers the ability to track orders while minimizing the time plants spend in boxes. We do ship orders via the US Postal Service at the customer’s risk. Postal insurance protects against lost shipments but not against plants damaged by lengthy time spent in boxes."

Hey, thanks, it took me a while to get back to you all. Aloha, I take it you found the web site. Asiatica.com I think. Ya, the shipping is definitely crazy expensive. Thanks everyone.

In all fairness...they are right. If they have special boxes made for shipping their plants, special forms to slip the plants into...special packing material and nuclear physicists packing the plants, they are allowed by law to recover their expenses. I have never ordered from them, so I don't know.
