Why so many seed pods?

Freedom, PA(Zone 6a)

I have decided not to pollinate my brugs this year, due to having a brug with fusarium, but I'm finding seed pods on a lot of my brugs. Well here is why. Check out how much pollen is on his legs.

Cathy: I couldn't beat them to my pollen. By the time the blooms had opened, the bees had "stolen" all of it. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't harvest pollen, so I posted over at ABADS and was advised it was probably a bee problem, and then it was like (smack my forehead...duh). Anyway, I have lots of pods too. It'll be interesting to see if they ripen before the first frost. This morning I found one on the ground with a big hole in it from some hungry deer. I was not happy. Planted them anyway, as they were close to being "done". Anyway, great pictures!!! Gretchen

A couple of weeks ago I was wondering the same thing, no pollen, was surprised to see how much pollen the bee's had on there legs. They were loaded up. I hope my seeds ripen, I know some won't be ready before frost, but I was thinking they would ripen over winter being stored in the basement of my house. I had 4 datura that had seed pods last year and they ripened in mid winter when the plant was dormant, I hope these will do the same. Cathy

Beautiful blooms! August is definitely BEE SEASON here in the Mid-Atlantic. I would suspect that the same holds true in PA. A lot of plants and Brugs will be pollinated without our help, by the birds, bees and bugs! :~)

Gretchen, Kathy & Shirley, I would LOVE to try this. Can you help me and tell me at what point after the flower actually open's do you take the pollen and transfer it out to the other one. Maybe there is already a thread out there but I don't know where, I'll go looking but this thread here inspired me.

Do I take it at night after it first opens up? Do I wait until the pollen before the stems inside there separate or is it ok to do it when they're kind of glued together? I really want to do this, I have some that are fixing to bloom now, just peeped out of the shell. Thanks in advance.
