Wow !!!! BEAUTIFUL , These are two plants , white and yellow or these flowers are on the same plant?

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

It is one plant, but the bud is yellow (from "Whiskers") and the flower opens up to a lovely clear white (from "Lake Effect"). Crestedchik will be along later and can fill you in on the hybridizing details.

The pictures of the bloom were taken on Day #1. I'll take more pictures later today and show you any changes on Day #2.

Thanks, what is the life of your plant?

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

"what is the life of your plant?"

I grew it from seed last winter and potted the seedling up to increasingly larger pots. It currently resides in a 5 gallon container. I have it growing on my balcony that has an Eastern exposure. So far, the leaves have held up very well to wind and they seem to be thicker than other varieties, so the insects have NOT caused nearly as much damage as with other varieties that have thinner leaf walls. This is its very first summer of blooms!

Nice looking, Shirley! Congrats!!!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I love it!!!
I am so happy for you!
What do the leaves look like?
How's it holding in the heat?
I wish they were serrated like Whiskers
Doing a happy dance for you!!!!!!!

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Thanks everyone!

CC: This beauty is holding up pretty well with the Mid-Atlantic heat and high humidity. The leaves do not appear to be serrated. If you look back at the pictures I have posted, you'll see what I'm talking about. Is this lovely Brug still under study or are you planning to name it? If so, I think I've come up with a good one.

Congrats, Shirley and CC. A beautiful white.

CC: Do you have a picture of "Lake Effect"? Please e-mail me. Thanks :~)

I just love how yellow the buds are and then the flowers are white. Looks so neat on the same plant. I think Root says Lake Effect has the best smell.

Congragulations to both of you, a lovely brug and great photo. Wish the foliage on mine looked as good. Donna

Thanks SO MUCH Shelly221 for locating a picture of 'Lake Effect'. I really appreciate it! :~)

Yes, the buds have a nice rich yellow color and the flowers are pristine white. I didn't realize that the delicious aroma was from 'Lake Effect', I thought it was from 'Whiskers'. Thanks for letting me know that it's 'Lake Effect' with that heavenly scent! Now that's one that should be put into a perfume bottle (IMHO)!!

Thanks Donna, the foliage is holding up really well compared to some of my other Brugs. Not half as many nibbles, bite marks or wind damage.....nice strong leaf structure too!!

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I don't have Lake Effect Kell,I was talking about a seedling from LE.
