A friend of mine just gave me a cutting, an empty branch with some leaves that are just starting, I have it in water, do I leave it in water for awhile, or do I plant it right away? My new found love, it's yellow, I just saw a red one, Wow. Thanks, Annie

Annie, welcome to brugs!

You can leave it in water, changing the water every day, until you see the little white bumps on the stalk start to grow. That's where the roots will come out. Some root their cuttings by going straight into dirt. Give it a few days in the water, if it starts to go mouldy/mushy, cut off the mushy part and stick into some peat moss. I'm sure others will come to your aid as well. It's my second year growing these great plants, so I'm still learning too.

Hi, hanna1!!! I'm a newbie and I will give you another possibility. Roll your cutting in a root hormone and stick it in some nice potting soil, put it in the shade and see what happens. Maybe I've just been lucky, but it's worked every time for me. Good luck!!!

Thanks so much for both of your advice, I've been changing the water, and yes the little white bumps are there, hurrah! Now I will put some growing hormone on it and plant it, I can't wait, how long before I should expect my first bloom, can you tell I'm excited??? :)
