Question about Propagating Mini Leaves

Lenexa, KS(Zone 5b)

I have a question for anyone with experience growing minis from leaves. I just got some mini leaves in my last Ebay purchase. Is there anything special I should do with them to get them started? The last time I tried mini leaves, they didn't make it, and I'm not sure why.

My method for rooting is to use a damp soil mixture(perlite, vermiculite and AV soil) in the 3 oz solo cups with holes in the bottom, stick the stem in a little bit at an angle, then put the whole thing in a ziploc baggie, with some air blown in so the bag doesn't lay on the leaves. I don't have grow lights, so I just place them in a bright location, but not in direct sunlight. Do I need something smaller to put them in, or put several in one cup? Or was it just a fluke that those didn't survive? I'd appreciate any thoughts.

I've had success with mini leaves either in a smaller cup (tiny mouthwash ones), or 3 to a solo cup. For the 3oz cups, I usually put extra drainage material in the bottom. I haven't tried them one to a 3oz cup, so I don't know if this method is any better or if yours was just a fluke.

Thanks for the input! I'll try both ways and see what happens. I might be able to find a smaller container if I look around, and I'll try several leaves in one solo cup with extra drainage at the bottom.

This is the mini that I have leaves for - http://www.dollyyeh.idv.tw/chantaspring.htm
I hope I can get them to root, it's such a cute little plant!

That is so cute. That is what I wanted (yellow). If you ever get extra leaves let me know please and I would be glad to purchase them.

HoniBee, I'd be happy to share if I can get them to grow, then I can do better than that even and send you a plantlet for postage if you want. I have 3 leaves, so hopefully I'll eventually have 3 plants! I'll make a note to myself about it.

Thanks Heather.

Heather, thanks for the question! I, too, just purchased some mini leaves (including the Chantaspring!) from eBay, but haven't yet received them. I've successfully grown one mini plant from a leaf, but I would sure be sad if these failed! Has anyone rooted mini leaves in small terra cotta pots? I have some of those I could use, unless anyone warns me against it for some reason...

terra cotta dries out too much, unless it's sealed/glazed. (also has a tendency to get moldy for me - especially in humid conditions)

Well, I ended up putting all 3 together in a solo cup since I couldn't find anything smaller. These leaves are so tiny! I really hope I don't kill them. I'll try to get a picture of them tomorrow to show how they look. And then to be patient while they grow....

Any success, Heather?

Keep the bag partially open b/c they're prone to rot if there's too much moisture.
