Eventide X Butterfly getting closer!

Ashton, IL(Zone 5a)

I'm so proud of my baby! This was started from seed last fall. Growing in a 3 gallon pot (not sunk into ground) & is about 4 ft tall at the "Y" and nearly 5 ft tall now. I have counted 26 buds so far.

The sister seedling (Eventide X Butterfly #2) that twinned into 2 trunks when it was 5 inches tall is about the same height, but shows no signs of Y-ing yet.

They look great Eileen! Im sure its a great feeling for you to see your brugs from seed at this point. Cant wait to see some blooms!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Can't wait to see your buds pop open. Hope you get some great color on them. The twin trunk brug makes me think that it has taken more energy to grow two trunks and the other one could put that energy into making a Y and buds. Sounds reasonable anyway. LOL!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Hope you get some beauties fro this cross.

Ashton, IL(Zone 5a)

Yes, I should have cut off the twin branch but I couldn't decide which one - they both seemed the same size, and still do.

Since I am just the grower and an expert (Susie French) did the hybridizing, I'm sure the blooms will be beautiful. But I still can't wait to see them!!

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

We are anxious to see the blooms also. Keep us posted. On edge of my seat here! I like anything that has Butterfly in her parantage.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Eileen you are doing great with growing seedlings. Can't wait for pictures.

Ashton, IL(Zone 5a)

Thank you!
These seedlings have grown well and have tolerated my mistakes & such. I will be ready with camera in hand when I see blooms (or maybe slightly before, LOL!).

The cool weather must be slowing it down. Can't wait to see if there's fragrance.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Eileen, it looks already promising. It has long tendrils. I am anxious to see the picture when the blooms.

Ashton, IL(Zone 5a)

Thank you Karyn and Monika. I like the tendrils too.

I went out for one last sniff before bed and found it had opened after dark! Darn it, where's my night vision when I need it? Thank goodness for camera flash -
oh, and now it smells lemony.

I like the tendrils. Bet it will be darker tomorrow.

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

She's a beauty! Love her long tendrils!!

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

She's sure is a pretty one and I also think she will darken up. I bet you were thrilled to see the first bloom.

Ashton, IL(Zone 5a)

Yes, I am thrilled! This is my first one to bloom from seed. I wish I didn't have to go to work (probably before the sun comes up) today - I'd like to see it in daylight instead of flashlight.

Thanks for all the encouragement - it makes this so special for me,
Eileen

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

She may darken up in the next two days. It is a beautiful bloom!!!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

She's beautiful!
Love the way the tendrils curve and fly!

Ashton, IL(Zone 5a)

It closes a bit during the day so I had to go out in the dark again. She did darken up a bit as you all predicted.

Just gorgeous! Congratulations to all who had a part in this one!!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I like her Eileen. Very nice pink with everything else to go with it. I hope after you trial her for a while that you will find her to be a great brug for the garden in every aspect of growing.

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Very pretty Eileen! I have a seedling of this cross (purchased off eBay) that is just starting to Y and I can see a little bud. Xing my fingers and toes for something pretty like yours!

edited for spelling....geez!

I am so surprised at how many pinks have come from that cross. Love those tendrils. I can't remember if I asked this already, but is the plant short or did it get tall like other brugs? I was trying to get a short bushy pink when I made that cross.

Ashton, IL(Zone 5a)

Hi Susie,
Yes, it is your cross! It Y'd at around 4 feet and the top of the tree is under 5 ft. It is just loaded, too and it keeps drying out because it's only in a 3 gallon pot. You can't imagine how delighted I am, after drooling over everyone's beautiful pink blossoms with wavy long tendrils, to have one in my own yard.

This one is not trying to put out shoots or anything. It grew into a small tree form all by itself. It will be housed in the basement over winter at around 55 degrees and encouraged to go dormant for a few months so I can enjoy again next year. I'm hoping to learn whether to repot now, or in spring.

I will be posting more of your crosses - 2 Adora X Rosamond have buds that are near opening - in a new thread in the near future.
