Do I have a brugs or angel trumpet or are they the same?

Weimar, TX(Zone 8b)

You can tell I am very new at this. Just wondering what I have. It had approximately 15 blooms one day last week and I missed it. I snapped this picture while it was performing for me. Thanks for any help from a learner.

Looks like you have a beautiful white Datura there Beverly. The way I remember the difference, is Angel Trumpets (Brugs) hang down on the plant (for the very most part), like Angels are trumpeting from heaven, Devil Trumpets (Daturas) point up, like he is blowing from way down south.
I think Angel trumpets are more tree or bush like, and Dats (again) I think are a bit more spreading, and "clump" like. I have brugs, but have not been blessed yet with a datura. Im sure someone with more experience with the 2 will come along and correct me.
Welcome to the Dat and Brug world!!!

Nice looking Datura. Shelly is totally right!! I'm not a datura person, but I do like the blooms and the fragrance at night.

It appears to me to be Datura metel, or as some call Evening Fragrance. Does it have a lovely scent to it? Some smell wonderful and some have no scent at all!!

Beverlyj, I live in zone 8b in southeast TX near LA border. What zone is Weimer, TX (lost my TX map)

I , too, have this plant as shown in your nice pic. Huge, white blooms open and face upward on clowdy/overcast days and at night.
It grows more like a vine. However, the seed pack said "Moon Vine" when planted last year.

Someone in Cyber Space, can you please clear this up for us?

My Datura has purple/white, lovely blooms which face upward and grows tall like a shrub.

Thanking you in advance for any comments on this "Moon Vine"?

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

The moon vine is different than a datura. The moon vine flower opens in the evening or when cloudy and has a wonderful fragrance and it is a vine. Your seeds were labeled correctly. The datura is shrub like.

Thank you for clarification of Moon vine and Datura.

This Spring I will locate a Brugmansia.

Sudiegoodman, I am also in zone 8b (I guess). We live off interstate 10 between Houston & San Antonio.
I have the purple and white datura also and this white one that has been identified as a datura. These are definantly not vines they are more of a bush.
I am excited to now have some startings of brugmansias. I have also received some seeds and once the Christmas rush is over I plan to get started on these.
We have had such cold weather I have lost several plants but am anxious to get it going again as soon as the first sight of spring arrives - which will be several months away - but it never hurts to start planning.

Beverly, I was looking forward to starting seeds with my new electric hot house I ordered from Mungers. It does not work :(
I have Datura seeds as well as Pride of Barbados. Pride of Barbados needs 85-90 degs consistent temp to germinate.

Happy Gardening and better days ahead
