As many of you know, I have a colony of about 20 feral cats that I feed in my back yard. I've been looking for a way to have them spayed/neutered, but there really is no help offered in Lamar County for this. Well I've discovered HCAPL http://www.hcaplpaws.org/default.asp, which is a non profit organization. They offer low cost s/n program. The vet clinic is in Sulpher Springs, which is about a 45 minute drive. It is the same shelter where I adopted Merlin. If we can trap them and get them there, they can fix them. Cats can be dropped off between 4-6pm Tuesdays, and picked up between 5-6pm Wednesdays. All we have to do is trap them and get them there.
It gets even better. Before I discovered this organization, I had sent a letter explain the issue I had with Sable, I'm sure some of you remember that situation, to several Tx based foundations and organizations. I heard back from a lady in Austin, who sent out a plea in a newsletter (I don't remember the name of it) and I've had three people email me and offer to pay for a cat. Isn't that thoughtful?? It was huge relief just knowing that there are others who care about the plight of ferals, but to offer to pay for one...I'm just overwhelmed. I know it's going to be a slow process, as I only have one trap, but at last we're doing something.
I'm sorry if this is long, but I just had to share this news. I feel a little pang of guilt when I rob one of its freedom for a night, but I have to tell myself that I'm helping them in the long run. Here's the precious little one we took this week.
There's hope at last
