Hedychium coccineum (Finally Flowering!)

Brookeville, MD(Zone 7a)

Well it's almost the end of summer but she's finally flowering. There's two other stalks still growing that haven't put up buds yet.

Is there any special way to divide the root? It's pretty big, do I make sure there's an eye on each division? And I do it during the plant's dormancy, right?

Glad you asked, don't have the answer, but I would assume you should have an eye in each division?

Don't you just love this one, mine bloomed the first time this year too and I had a heck of a time getting the name on it. http://davesgarden.com/pdb/go/71154/index.html

Sounds like you have the root (tuber) division down! That's how we do it....in fact, dried, they store well for a long time.

I did that too for awhile, I think it is a type of Butterfly.

There's only one root but I could have sworn it was white when it flowered last year. I think it's a type of butterfly also.
