rothkirch update

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

I've been growing this one for over a year now. The plant formed 3 very large trunks which I have narrowed down to just 1. I am using the other 2 as rooting material. Both of those trunks averaged about 4 1/2 to 5 ft in height.
I chopped one of them into 2 pieces of which both have rooted . The second piece I left whole so it is about 4 1/2 ft tall maybe. The taller one is rooted and has some roots out of the bottom of the pot already.
A few hours ago I was out counting the buds on the main central stem that I left in the pot, once I hit 45 I stopped counting so I have no idea how many buds are actually on it right now.

I'll try and get my photo software reinstalled on the computer so I can get a pic when it starts to bloom.

Would love to see pics.

Will you please tell us how you root it? I had 4 cuttings, tried all ways......none took. Everyone has told that they rot very easily.

Wow, David. That's great. Mine is much, much smaller than yours and I have three blooms today and wouldn't you know a catepillar would find them. LOL

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Gosh David, you must have the touch. Now you have your back up brug. I'm so glad. I would have hated to see you lose your RK over the winter without a backup.

Hibiscus,
With the first part that I removed I just cut out the top 2ft and put it into a pot of soil after dusting it with rootone. I did the same for the lower part of the same trunk. Bot h of these had the little nubs on them that I think turn into the roots so I felt certain that they would root. Also the wood tht I am rooting here is several inches in diameter, not thin brances or small wood. These trunks are maybe 4 inches round.
The taller trunk that is about 4 1/2 feet tall had actually started to put out some roots of it's own about and inch or so above the soil line so I just chopped the entire thing off just below thos roots and now that particular plant has roots growing out of the bottom of a one gallon pot.

Glad you made it home already. Hope you got the plants you went after and didn't get drenched in that rain.

(David called from his truck this afternoon) LOL!

I made it home safe but not before running onto another downpour. This storm had the weirdest looking clouds, midnight black and very low in the sky, like just above the tree line and producing a large amount of rain in a short peiod of time.
I got 6 pots of lycoris albiflora (white spider lilies) 1 pitcher plant, don't know a variety as this man had quite a few different ones, 1 red venus flytrap and something else that I don't recall the name of.

The lycoris albiflora are kind of rare and not so easy to come by in the

Thanks David for help you gave on rooting this one. I originally bought RK from NH and it didn't even start growing for me before it was gone. I hope to someday have another.

Good luck on getting all your brugs growing and blooming again.

Well David looks like you got cut off in mid sentence...... did you go to "OZ".........can you finish what you were writing? ;)

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

David, I can't remember if you sent me a cutting Roth. when you so generously sent me cuttings . I lost I think three of the cuttings you sent. The rest are doing well, all planted in the ground and labeled, mixed in my three beds with seedlings. Not all have bloomed yet. Hope you get your software reinstalled so we can see pictures. I have one brug that is about 8 ft. tall, but no blooms yet. Donna

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Admit it David........you have the magic touch. This one is not easy to root. Also, it was amazing that you got that scrawney little plant that came from NH to grow into such a big one.

You got some neat plants yesterday! The white lycoris will be beautiful in your flower bed.

Dee I think I was just going to say in the nursery trade!!! That was yesterday and that is too far to remember for me(LOL)

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)
