Blood Lily ..are these going to be seeds

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

I've planted a few years ago a few blood lily bulbs on my roof garden.. last year I guess I must have deadheaded them and didn't get these... this year I let the flowers fade .. the structure of the flower remained intact since the spring when they bloomed..leaves are large and healthy looking... then the structure parts of the flowers have started to form red berries...they are cute.. are these seeds inside...
if so...
when and how might I harvest them
how many seeds are likely to be in each berry
when and how might I try sowing them...
how long for these seedlings to form flowers...

that is very cool, not what I would have expected. I hope they do turn out to be viable seeds for you.

SunDry... and just what would you have expected...
so you think there might be seeds there... I was hopeful there were ... but when and what to do with them is a mystery... that's if there are ... guess I'll wate till as alte as I can.. give them all of the time I can.. I just didn't want them to suddenly pop open ...scattering their seeds to the wind.. if they would even do that... got not a clue... they are about the prettiest things blooming I can imagine though.. and would like to buy more bulbs.. Darn, I left the flower on like you did, didn't get anything that resembeled berries boo hoo. it was pretty while it lasted, do youknow if the bulbs multiply like other bulbs? just wondering? I only have the one, was hoping it would multiply

Gordon - Not sure what the botanical name is on yours, there where 2 possibilities in the PDB when I searched on "Blood Lily" See the PDB. Looks like "Geep" in the UK got seeds this year. Also the PDB says that seeds should be harvested and sown immediately because of viability dropping.

This one also says sow seeds right away.

I would have expected little seed pods, like on lily of the nile . . . but what do I know? (not much, I'm afraid) Berries are so much cooler!

I hope it does turn out to have seeds inside. We will all be waiting to hear!

Langbr... Yes.. thanks.. the second link is mine... the Amaryllidaceae
Genus: Scadoxus (ska-DOKS-us) (Info)
Species: multiflorus (mul-tih-FLOR-us) (Info)
it has just that wonderful red and large flowerhead..with the yellow tips on each part ... grows well and easily'' still getting one flower from the bulb..so I guess the bulb hasn't split yet. Thanks for the links abd the place to enter my performance info... I'm by far the further north of any growersbut it's doing so well in my planters... It's such a grand flower I was looking for more when I discovered me possible seed berries...
Kathy-ann... welll hopefully soon you'll get the seeds in your berries..the second link in Langbr's post has reports thatwill divide nicely... a lady started with three and now reports hundreds. cutting the end of the bulbs it said helps splitting
Sundry... welll I sure will keep you informed as to how it's going... Still I don't know what to do or how long to wate... but I'll pick a path and then report the results.. for planting the seeds...I'm going to the MS delta tomorrow... I'll floata paper boat down to you... looked at Franklin and it's about in the water there... there's enough solid groung there to plant in then... must be nice to have it so warm there...
Thanks all ....Gordon
