Rooting in Spagnum Moss

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

After losing my first batch of H. curtisii put to root, today I checked on those I wrapped with long figer spagnum moss and then put in the small chambers of a seed tray. I put the tray in about 1/2" of water...so the moss stays wet, but there is still air getting to the roots. Gotta tell you...every one of those "clumps" are full of roots after 2 weeks.

I had forgotten about this method which I tried last year with great success too! It is excellent for the tender stemmed cuttings...great for H. bella and her friends. I put a drop of ST in the water I fill the tray with. In the winter I will use a heat mat and keep the temp. above 73 deg.

Um....what is ST? I have rooted some in long figer spagnum moss instead of soil but the moss in a terra cotta pot then water very little. This works for the Kerrii and Carnosa groups.

Thanks,

Daisy, ST stands for Superthrive hormone additive.
Didn't try rooting in sphagnum moss yet, so thanks for the info.
BTW Carol the curtisii from you is doing good :).

Oh..... DUH! I should have known that. I use it for soaking my cuttings in prior to shipping them for a trade. Have never tried rooting with it. THANKS!
