I remembered reading about this hoya yesterday...and the fact that the internodes can get VERY long...making the plant very leggy! If the growing tip is pinched back, the internodes shorten up for the next growth, and then gradually become longer again...so you keep pinching the tip back when they get too far apart. I remembered this and promptly cut the tips of my H. globulosas... I have tried it and it does work!
Just FYI... :o}
H. globulosa
Besides this is truly a beautiful plant, I love the veining in the leaves, they seem to be rectangle with a tip. Carol, is yours a slow grower, mine seems to be? Perhaps I'm not giving it enough sun. Norma
Hey, Norma...Yes, kinda slow. But I do find that the more LIGHT (indirect), the faster the growth. The newly propagated plants grow faster in 55% shade (in the GH) than a larger plant I have in deeper shade.
Okay, Carol I think I know what the problem was. H. golamcoana DK, that is what set her off. I found the spelling in the IPNI Query Results, of course, I do realize that that could be a typo as well, by them or the person who submitted it. I did proof this to make sure I spelled the name correctly. I don't know what year it was introduced do you? Now I want to look it up. Norma
Okay, I move it out into more indirect light. I found something for you. Hoya golamcoiana kloppenburg n. sp. I have the type sheet in front of me. Small leaves. The a full Latin description was included on the next page. The drawing was done by Ruel D. Medina, botanical artist. 1988
It shows small oval shaped leaves. I could copy and send the type sheet to you. This species was published in the 1991 So it is legal since l991 Norma
Norma...slight confusion here. H. globulosa is not the same as H. golamcoiana....
Starting another thread.
No of course not, I switch subjects on you, my fault, I'm sorry.
AH, but you DO keep us on our toes, Norma!!!! And, I for one am glad.
I have a H. Glabosa and i cant stop it from growing...its growing like wild fire, also i have another H. Glabosa that i cant stop it from growing like wildfire.
HI David,...H. globulosa?
Tell us...how do you have it growing? Light? Cool? Lots of Water?...please tell us your secrets. I know H. globulosa likes it cooler than warmer...has it flowered for you?
Carol, good thing my globulosa dosen't know it's suppose to like it cooler:-). Mine also is growing and putting out long runners. It's hasn't bloomed for me...yet.
Blessings,
Awanda
H. globulosa is growing under warm tropical conditions in our greenhouse, timed misting and all, and is looking very happy. I don't think it is getting enough light to flower for us. Norma
