No matter how many toys you buy, they will get into any mischief they can. This time, they managed to reach the edge of a flat of brug cuttings, pull it under their cage and have their way with it. Their way is transforming the leaves to confetti and the stems to toothpicks. The first reaction was 'OMG, my brugs!' The second reaction was 'OMG, my birds!'
I don't know much about the toxins in brugmansias, but I took away their nuts and seeds, for fear that toxins might attach to oils and stay in the body longer, and I gave them fresh water and pellets only and will continue that for a couple of days.
They grumbled and steered clear of me today, but I think that had more to do with my yelling at them when I found what they had done than with discomfort from brug munching.
There are many nice things about having parrots in the greenhouse, but this is not one of them.
I should take a new picture for this post, but I didn't want to pose them with brugs in their beaks. I may change my mind if I'm not able to save any of those cuttings.
