CLOSED: newbie from Vermont here:)

Lyndonville, VT

hey all;

I am looking for lilies, daylilies and iris's. I have just made two gardens for these while my husband was in the middle east. Now that he is back he wants me to fill them in with these above. I don't have a ton of money and probably nothing to trade with as I am starting out - I have lupine seeds and that is about all. But am willing to pay for them or pay shipping if you are cleaning house. I am a very honest person. I am a mom two two teenage sons and retired military and wife to a Vt air guard member and also a volunteer for the family readiness program for the base and also last but not least I am the founder of Green Mtn Pug rescue. So most of my money I have free goes to the needy sick pugs we are saving from horrible conditions.

thanks for reading.

Hello Karen and Welcome to DG. Glad you found us. Did you find the Welcome Mat yet? There's lots of lily, iris and hem heads around here. I wish I had some to share but I'm just starting with the hems myself. I could send you some dwarf yellow and a little taller white irises if you like. Here's a picture of them from this spring.

Also, I've been told it's not wise to post your address in the first post of a thread because everyone (not just subscribers) can read it. Click on the edit button below your name and delete your address, put in something like, address to follow, etc. and then do a new post with your address. Just a safety issue. :) Laura

Thanks for all the responses to my email. Well I have some devastating news- we had a fire in our lovely home last night- thank GOD my oldest pug woke up my 16 yr old and he got them out and then called 911- hubby and I were in Maine for the weekend. My 18 yr old was working and came home to the fire trucks and a zoo of people around. We lost our bathroom - ceiling- insulation is everywhere and ashes too and our hallway seiling collapsed..I sit here on the computer in tears resting - taking breaks from the heat and humidity and cleaning the house. But thank you to you all who offered to send them to me for postage- but with a 500.00 deductible on the insurance we can't spend a penny...I am sorry to have wasted your time.

Thankfully we are o.k. and we will survive.

Karen - ditto what hemlady said, forget the postage, your daylilies will be in the mail in the morning. Wish there was more I could do for you.

I am so sorry you are having to go thru this and am glad everyone is ok.

My husband just asked why I was crying again....I showed him these notes and he says- thanks everyone. We are the type to jump at the chance to help less fortunate- if there is a fire- I make some meals for them etc. But to be in this position really throws you for a loop you know. While I am devastated and a bit at a loss as to what happens next- it is soooooo comforting to think people out here are just like us.

Karen

Hi Karen, I'm so sorry about your house fire. And so glad no one was hurt. I'm planning to divide my day lilies this fall. If you would like some send me your address.

Karen, you will be in my prayers. Only those who have been thru this type devestation can truely understand what you are feeling(I'm not one of them, thankfully)but the rest of us can offer prayers and whatever help each of us is able to do for you.

Welcome to Dave's Garden.

Hi Karen,
I am so sorry about your loss. Thank goodness God was riding on your shoulders, as it could have been worse.

As far as being on the "other side" right now. I have a friend who is always there, always giving, always doing things....but when it comes to her she doesn't want the fuss, doesn't want people to do things, etc. I got frustrated with her one day and said "God loveth a cheerful giver"....but He also "loveth a cheerful receiver" and she does not like receiving. So I say to you, except the gifts from friends and loved ones....we get pleasure from doing good, as you well know how that feels......so be gracioius and receive as well as give.

Thank goodness you have insurance on your home.

My mother was born in St. Johnsbury, VT and my grandparents met and were married in Lunenburg, VT. Probably the majority of my ancestors are buried in VT and I still have many living relatives there. Wondering where Lyndonville is in relation to these other towns. I know I've heard of it. I told my DH that if we ever move back to New England, I want to live in VT. (we lived only a half hour from Pownal, VT when I lived in Massachusetts).

Thinking about you and praying for things to be cleaned/cleared up real soon for you.

Happy Day, Kathy

Thanks everyone for the kind words- Kathy- I work in St Johnsbury and live in Lyndonville which is only 15 minutes north. Lunenburg is a nice town- full of moose right now:)LOL

So nice to hear from everyone- thanks for the kind thoughts and welcome!!!

Karen, There is an old white church in Lunenburg, I believe it was a Methodist Church, set up on a little hill with a circle road in front of it. It is no longer inhabitable, but that is the church that my grandparents were married in. I have an aunt that was a teacher and lives in Concord, right on Rt. 2. She has a hillside of lupine, all different colors and gave me seed many years ago, but has since been lost...There names are Bobby and Ginny Lee. Our history runs steep in your parts and I yearn to go back someday.....you are so lucky to live in such a beautiful part of New England.

My great grandfather built a house in Gilman that is still standing (over 125 years old now) and people still live in it.

Could be you know some of my relatives, names like Kettles, Lee, Watts, Sayres, Isham, Nichols....to name a few.

You are a very busy person, (it keeps us young)...I am hoping and praying that your house gets fixed real soon. Wish I were in your neck of the woods to help you out. Still sending prayers your way.

:) Kathy

Karen, I don't live too far from you and have family in the Lyndonville/Sheffield area.
I'll be dividing some daylillies come fall(they are still flowering) and will be happy to drop some off to you when I go visit family.

Melvindale, MI(Zone 5a)

Vtpugs (Karen) - did you get the daylilies I sent you? Let me know if they arrived, ok?

Cindy

Thanks to everyone who has a huge heart on this board. Those of you sending me lilies after my house fire I wish I was there to hug you all. This past week has had tons of ups and downs and coming home to find packages of plants to go play with has been my saving grace here. It allowed me to go outside and get dirty and plant them and to see that I truly am very lucky in SOOO many ways.

While I am a newbie here I just wanted to take the second to say thanks to all of you who have been so kind and generous here. I saved some of the addresses on the boxes- but most of the time hubby threw them out and took care of the plants putting them in water till I got home etc.. so I don't have all the addresses.

God bless you!!

Hemlady- yes thanks soooooo much I have them planted now and can't wait to see what blooms and grows next year!!!!!

should I put mulch around them at all to help with the severe cold and frosts here in vt>>

Melvindale, MI(Zone 5a)

I would suggest some mulch for the first winter to help them a little. Yes do that.

Lyndonville, VT

What kind of mulch should I use here in Vt???

Karen

Melvindale, MI(Zone 5a)

I use a red cedar mainly cause I like the color, but dablaw suggests mini pine bark nuggets that Walmart sells because they won't attract termites like some of the other wood chips will. In the spring I am going to start using those kind.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

I have some very tall yellow iris if you would like. Just send me your addy and I will get them out.
Blessings,
Sandy
