I have a halogen spotlight normally fixed on our pond, so I experimented with it. Took about 130 shots in all, and I like 3 or 4.

Oops - forgot to rotate this one!

I really like the next shot, looks great!

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Are you hooked yet?
Great pic, would have it up as Wallpaper but i gotta enjoy Dotts for a day or more!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

She has a really light scent, but sweet. Do the blooms get more fragrant as they mature?

Howie's informed me he doesn't like how they smell. He doesn't like narcissus, either. He's a rose man.

Yes, Root, I might just be hooked. Until winter, anyway. ;)

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

you you you entomologist type or whatever.....

I like him!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Oh, and YES I did get a picture of a spider while I was at it. At least two of them were spinning webs while I photographed! I kept seeing bits of the fine filaments glisten in the light.

Oh my goodness, impressive pictures, how you manage these and pls tell me about your DC specifications?

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

Your Halo is beautiful GW, I'm so happy for you. I'm interested in what kind of spider that is also. I found a darned hornworm on my dat's yesterday yuck!

Memphis, TN(Zone 7b)

GW - Awesome!

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

She is really pretty! Thanks for the great pictures! Gretchen

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Yippee!
Now you gotta admit GW, this is THE perfect flower for you, being a night owl ;>}
Guess we'll need to hear more from Kristi on the scent.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Nice pictures Kim. I hope you are taking pictures during the day today, too, so we can see her in natural light. I'll leave the spider comments to someone else. They give me chills. I'm so glad you finally have open blooms. Lots of brugs have a strong fragrance. Maybe this one just won't. At least she does have some fragrance for you so you can get an idea of the sweet smells they to have.

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Its beautiful Kim! Congratulations!!

Mirpur (A.K), Pakistan(Zone 9b)

Oh these are those buds, very beautiful GW.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Hi, everyone! Thank you -- yes, this is the perfect flowr for a nightowl, you're right. I'm afraid I'll have to take pictures later, because right now we are in a real deluge of rain. In the radar below, I made a black box just above the B in COLUMBUS. We're just about where the B is. It's been a half hour since that radar shot was taken, so we're really getting the rain now!

Gumlla, the camera I use is a Minolta DiMAGE A1. I posted the shot, along with some comments about brugs (hope I'm right!) and the methodology I used to get the shots, at TrekLens: http://www.treklens.com/gallery/North_America/United_States/photo9437.htm

I've yet to ID the spider. It was very small, just a centimeter or so in diameter. It and its buddy were sure busy, and there were fine webs everywhere around the brug! In one shot, it looked like the spider might be making an egg sac and laying eggs on the underside of the leaf.

Aha, I believe this spider is Theridiidae frondeum, a cobweb weaver:

Our home has the cobwebs to prove it, too.

Mirpur (A.K), Pakistan(Zone 9b)

Brugs flower picture is very beautiful and the spider size is very small but you shoot that very nice, You are an expert photographer : )

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Thank you, Gumlla! Until I got a digital camera, I was too afraid to experiment and learn. Since getting my first digicam in 2001, however, I've been free to make lots of mistakes and see what works best. The two things I try to keep in mind whenever shooting are to (1) remove distracting background elements or re-position the subject, if possible and (2) get in as close to my subject as I can, so little or no cropping is needed later.

I can't believe how much the colors change on the blooms. Today, it's more pink. It's not open as much, either. Do they just last one day? *sniffle*

Here are some shots from a break between the showers:

Nice shots Kim. Your blooms should last around 5 days unless it gets really hot. She may be closed down some due to the rains.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Way to go girl!! Now you are smelling why we are so nuts,I never thought of it as a nightowl plant!!LOL!

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Beautiful pictures of Halo Peach. I especially like the ones of her displayed on a black background. It really makes the peach color standout!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Thanks. I liked those, too. I didn't use any background, just a muted flash that kept the background from getting too much light. I want to get some cardboard and/or fabric to have handy for when I do want a background, though.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Gorgeous photos! And a beautiful brug!!!

Kingston, OK(Zone 7a)

Gardenwife you have a steady hand. The photo's are nice and clear. Nice looking Brug also.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Thank you TA - The camera has anti-shake feature, which is like an image stabilized lens, only this works inside the camera instead of in the lens. It really helps in low-light situations and lets me do hand-held shots where I'd normally need a tripod.

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Just perfect pictures! And of course the bloom is still beautiful!

What camera are you using there Kim? I just told DH "I WILL have a camera that does THIS" lol

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

You all are making it impossible to get my house cleaning done, you know. ;) I posted about the camera earlier today, but it got lost in the posts since then. It's a Minolta DiMAGE A1.

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Thanks Kim.

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

Gosh GW. The halogen shot (as well as all the others too) was neat. 130 frames.... just think what you are missing ; 4 rolls of Ektachrome 160 T for $52.00, mailers for $ 19.00. Thats about $ 71.00, then the wait for a week or two. Maybe you've got something there with the digital. Yust laffing aloud, I sure like my little olympus too.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Gorgeous pictures!

Belmont, NC(Zone 7b)

gardenwife:
Loved the shot of the ruffles. When you enlarge it- it is incredible!
Also loved the throat shot.
Sure is beautiful.
Thanks for sharing.
Which is more addicting- the plants or the camera? Bet it's a contest.
Jay

GW
Your pictures are gorgeous, Here is your picture ,
http://www.treklens.com/gallery/North_America/United_States/photo7237.htm
I like this very much, your idea and the colors attract my heart. Wonderful , very beautiful spider , looking like cheetah.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

That's not my spider photo, but I agree with you, it's incredible!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Well, as of a day ago, the last of her flowers were spent and today she dropped her one remaining bud. *sigh* I don't see any obvious buds on my other brugs, but I keep checking. The tall one in our front bed has Y'd, so that's a good sign.
