I bought this basket full of several hoyas at HD today- I just couldn't pass up the chance to obtain so many different varieties for 8 bucks. But I don't even know where to begin iding them. Can yall help me?
New hoya basket, need help iding
HI Art -
All of your hoyas are H. carnosa and/or H. carnosa cultivars. This hoya is one of the oldest in circulation, the most tolerant of cool temps and low light (especially the variegated ones) and the hoya with probably the most cultivars.
The pictures 1 and 2 are H. carnosa var. picta cv. Rubra also called Krimson Princess . The pink growth is usually new growth and without green in the growth it will not grow all that well. Some cut solid pink or white out...some don't.
The picture #3 looks like a straight H. carnosa...and #5 could be the same, or it could be the cultivar Minibelle.
The leaf with the white margin is H. carnosa var. variegata cv. Tricolor called Krimson Queen.
At least, that's what the book says. Variation in leaf size and shape are common...they are not all that stable.
Aloha
I have one the same, and the flowers are an incredible raspberry colour. Never knew what kind of hoya it was until I posted it and someone also said it looked like a Krimson Princess.
Ooh, I just looked again, and see there are definitely two different hoyas there - and I have both - in separate pots. The one with the roundish green leaf edged in cream will have a light pink flower with a darker centre and the one that has a narrower leaf that is cream in the middle and has some reddish leaves, will have the raspberry coloured flowers.
Again, though, I'm not exactly sure what kind they are though. Maybe Alohahoya could help.
Well, now I see that she did, while I was gabbing away. LOL. Now we both know!

Well thank you very much! I can't believe how different they all look and yet are one species- I mean I believe it, but it's really intriguing. Anyhow, I'm excited about it and thank you again! Susanne
