have been issued here for all of central and southern Saskatchewan. :'^( ALL plants will be hauled into our porch, shed, etc. this evening. :(
What have the rest of you heard?
FROST WARNINGS
seems it was only a few days ago the last one was issued. How much weight do you haul in and out? Do we look at this as an upper body workout sent from the garden gods?
More than I care to think about Lynn. A few I will be potting up for winter growth since the plants grew more than I expected....most of them will be dragged into the shed and DH will be saying a few choice words to me, during the operation, regarding *my* hobby. I've noticed he loves them when they are in bloom and enjoys showing them to visitors but in the spring and fall he isn't as enamored. ;) He also makes sure I carry as much as him....
ceedub I think your zone would be heaven....unless you get a lot of humidity!
I'm really thinking of this as the summer that never was....we started off with so many dreams but 6 weeks of rain and just above freezing weather certainly put a damper on them. I spoke to a couple of other local gardeners and we figure we only had about 8 days with temps above 85F this growing season....

Oh yes, the humidity is pretty bad sometimes, we live about 300 ft from Lake Ontario - even when the temp gets cool, we need to keep the AC on sometimes to keep the humidity down in the house.
By the way, I see many references to "DH" throughout Dave's Garden. I've been trying to figure out what it means, and can only come up with "Duh Husband". Am I right? Or is it something nicer? LOL.
p.s. I've also noticed papa and mama goose have been putting their youngsters though V formation flying school......I've never noticed that this early before....makes me wonder when O*L*D M*A*N W*I*N*T*E*R will be back. :b
It's short for darling husband.....we may think otherwise, at times, but it's quicker to type in. ;)
LOL....laughing out loud
SIL....Son-in-law
DD....darling daughter
DS....darling son
ROFLMBO....rolling on floor laughing my butt off
are a few I can think of right now. I know when I joined I was very puzzled but people are happy to give the definitions.
Thanks for asking about DH, ceedub...I was just wondering the same thing! Frost warnings...good grief. This really is the summer that never was. Not too bad here in the east but my folks in SK and MB have reported an unsatisfying summer this year. Every time I see that commercial where the woman screams because of the fallen leaf, I have to turn the sound off asap...can't stand it! :-)
Shannon
LOL and crying here.....methinks we might be seeing that shortly! ;)
LOL, that is a funny commercial.
Trust me to think "Duh" when its "Darling".
Sorry to hear about the praries being so cold this summer. We've also had a colder than usual summer, thus saving many $ in hydro for the AC. But nowhere as bad as having frost yet.
Lilypon and Jagonjune, don't forget to use your legs instead of your backs when you're carrying all that stuff in and out, eh!! Or else your great upper body workout will turn into a wrenched back and that's no fun!!

Lilypon, sounds like your summer has been exactly the same as ours. We actually had FROST on July 22 & again on Aug 12. Didn't lose anything though. But the garden looks pretty pathetic in places. My nicotiana is usually taller than me by now but this year it isn't even up to my shoulders yet. If it wasn't cold weather that got the plants, it was worms & aphids. Got kind of discouraging at times.
Your husband sounds exactly like mine. Every spring I hear the same thing, 'I don't want to see you starting as many plants as last year'. Yeah well that goes in one ear & out the other.
Good luck with your weather forecast tonight. Sure hope you don't get frost. Supposed to be 4º here.
The lack of heat has had a few pluses....almost every summer for the past ten years we have considered buying an AC....should check the sales in town, they might be almost giving them away! ;)
Good reminder and thanks ceedub....lift with the legs!!
Thanks broots and good luck to you too!
Go, Moose Jaw! I'm glad to hear that some kids still know what a book is, in this computer age. Also heard that Regina's threatened library branches are staying open for the time being...maybe there's hope yet. Kooger, if you're still on-line, can you please post your links again? When I clicked on them, my e-mail opened instead (unless I'm doing something wrong-?). Am looking forward to learning some of these abbreviations.
I hope we don't get any frost soon, knock on wood...all of our tomatoes are still green!
Not sure if Kooger's still around but here is a good thread with lots of links to abbreviations and what they mean: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/403756/abbreviations
FROST!!!
Yuk, we're hearing about El Nina, which is supposed to give us a warmer and wetter winter than usual. That's why BCer's don't tan, they rust. LOL
Linda in Victoria
I hope that warmer and wetter winter is also our prediction!
Plants are in, or under cover and DH perennial saying was heard......
muttered very loudly........
"DO YOU THINK YOU HAVE ENOUGH PLANTS???" :b
Actually Pam I had my first flight of geese overhead about two weeks ago. Didn't know what or where the sound was coming from - looked up and saw the V. Almost dropped. Figured they were confused or just real late in coming home - hope, hope.
s
ROFLMBO........we can always hope!! It really worries me that they are doing it this early......last year it was mid to late September when I just saw them practicing. :S
Huh! Frost on the pumpkins this morning. Except there are no pumpkins, or cukes or cantelope. Nope just little bumps that might have been........
Just came in from watering to try and minimize the damage. Hands are frozen. Cool climates?
Sorry it hit you echoes.....I'm not sure about the country, or edge of town, but it didn't hit our yard or my parent's. From what Dad just said on the phone it looks like what we were supposed to get did hit Manitoba instead. I know it did get too cold for my tropicals so I'm glad we pulled them in.
I hope it didn't freeze hard enough to damage the crops....Saskatchewan still has 99.9% in the fields. This has got to go away for quite awhile yet.......we've got the best crops we've had in years, *if* they don't get hit.
