Horn Worm

Freedom, PA(Zone 6a)

I found this bugger last night, well I actually found 3 of them on one of my variegated datura and 1 on my double yellow datura, the double yellow was all eaten, no leaves left, just one seed pod. I have found 9 in the past 2 weeks. I don't know why there are so many this year. I am only finding them on my datura's. I have been noticing there poop on my brugs, but haven't found one yet, there so hard to see. So far the brugs are still with all there leaves. Cathy

Gosh, I hate those worms. I had some on tomato plants this year. They sure can strip them quickly.

Hi, Cathy - I had one on my quad purple datura about a month ago - it actually stopped me dead in my tracks when I saw it - I had never seen one before! It completely defoliated the plant - every single last leaf -gone! The plant now has about 6 2-inch leaves that have sprouted from the bare stem. Butt ugly things IMHO.

I did learn that they turn into the hummingbird moth - it's too bad cause I like those - but I had my husband kill it after I saw what it did to my plant!

Awwww... I actually save them and put them on a plant I grow for the cats. I know, I know... I can't help it. I also take spiders outside if I find them in the house.

I will take a ladybug outside, but spiders.......no way! Smoosh them!

Boy, I'm not saving either the hornworm or the spiders. Can't stand either of them Spiders give me the willies.

Hubby feeds them to the chickens, they fight over them, they love them. This is the first year that I've seen that many. Funny thing is they are not on my tomato plants. I have 12 plants, loaded with green tomato's, need some warm nights for them to turn red, not sure if that’s going to happen. This has been a bad tomato year. We have only picked 5 ripe tomato’s.

I've just been outside looking for the culprit!! Leaves on a couple brugs pretty well chewed!
He's well hidden now, but I'm on his trail!! The moths are great--- He better be changing into a moth soon or he's a goner! SQUASH!!

Hey, I just figured out one good thing about hail storms. You don't notice the holes in the leaves due to cats. There are so many holes, they all look alike and I can pretend it was the hail.
