Stupid Grape question

So other than picking them and tasting, how does one know when garpes are ripe enough to be picked and used/eaten?
Do grapes normally ripen at the same rate on each bunch, or is it like tomatos? (each ripening on it's own time schedule).....it must be possible as the ones I buy in the store are in bunches and not singles LOL
Please don't laugh at me too much....this is our first year with grapes. :-)

i don't know how the stores get theirs to ripen in bunches but mine (they are young 2nd yr to fruit) ripen a few at a time. i taste to check because they don't get as big as the stores either. hoping one day they will. still learning about these things lol.

We have been raising and harvesting Concord grapes, the old fashion seeded kind, for a few years now. No, they don't all ripen at the same time on our vines. I think a lot of that has to do with cultivar, climate, etc. as well as selective harvesting and selling. Somtimes we have a totally ripe cluster, sometimes we have all stages of growth, ripeness, etc on the same cluster.

Right now we are harvesting the grapes which is a time consuming task.
